"The first printing press to arrive in Guatemala had in context a city that had been moved by the recent events of the Agua volcano. The city had to move to the Panchoy valley and the construction of plazas, churches, houses and beautiful structures began that remain to this day.
It was installed in a house next to the Town Hall and books were printed and sold that satisfied catechization and the desire for knowledge.
On July 16, 1660, the printing press arrived in the city of Santiago de Guatemala, becoming the fourth city in the Spanish colonies on the continent to have one. The first to have a typographic workshop were Mexico in 1539, Lima, Peru in 1584 and the English Colonies in 1638.
Bishop Fray Payo Enríquez de Rivera commissioned the Franciscan Francisco de Borja to move to the city of Puebla to buy the press and at the same time hire the printer, Jose Pineda Ybarra was the one who performed that function until his death.
It is also important to emphasize that all the paper used in the Kingdom of Guatemala during the colonial era came from Spain.
With so much information learned in this beautiful museum, I have no choice but to recommend it to those lovers of literature. It is impressive to see the dates these have been posted and that they are still in good condition. For me this is a sanctuary of literature that you have to visit, no matter what.
What struck me the most was that there is a book that mentions Captain Pedro de Savadalles, Mayor of the province of San Salvador!!!"
