What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning natural beauty of Polylimnio Waterfalls, describing the emerald lakes and cascading falls as a paradise. The opportunity to swim in the refreshing, albeit cold, waters is a major draw. While the hike is manageable, some find the paths steep and slippery, and note that it can get crowded during peak times. Litter left by some visitors is a recurring negative point.
"We visited the waterfalls on our way back from the Mani Peninsula in the Peloponnese to Athens. The drive was beautiful and winding, and took about two hours. We arrived around 2 PM, and it was quite hot. Many of the hikers we met along the way looked exhausted on their way back up in the midday heat, so we recommend arriving around noon — that way, the return hike is shaded and much more pleasant.
After a steep descent, we turned left and entered the first pool, which was clear and refreshing. In hindsight, it would have been better to go right toward the main waterfall. There you’ll find a large, impressive pool with cool, crystal-clear water. At the far end, there’s a rope ladder you can climb to jump back into the water — the kids especially loved that!
They also enjoyed the clean water, the fish, the butterflies, and the entire natural setting. All in all, it’s a wonderful place for a short, memorable outing."

"A beautiful place of mostly untouched nature. The steep descent on a sunny path is awarded by multiple ponds and little to big waterfalls of fresh cold water. Bring solid shoes or water shoes and prepare for some entry level climbing passages. Unfortunately some visitors (surprisingly most of them Greek) leave their rubbish behind in an otherwise untouched natural habitate."

"Bear in mind that there's a long descent and some of the walkways are degraded. So can be challenging for small children and elderly. Otherwise it's beautiful, water flows even at the hight of summer, and there's nice shade. Note that you need to wade in the water at the end to complete the trail, which is not very long."

The Natural Beauty of Polylimnio
The trail winds through the forest, revealing new vistas at every turn. Visitors can expect to encounter a variety of small to large waterfalls, each feeding into the next serene lake. The water, while stunningly clear, is known for being quite cold, even in the height of summer, offering a bracing experience for swimmers. The natural setting is largely untouched, making it a true hidden gem for those seeking an escape into nature.
While the beauty is undeniable, it's important to be prepared for the terrain. The paths can be steep and slippery, requiring sturdy footwear. Some sections may involve wading through water to complete the circuit. Despite these minor challenges, the reward is an unforgettable encounter with one of Greece's most spectacular natural wonders.
Navigating the Polylimnio Trails
Be prepared for varied terrain. The trails are characterized by steep sections, slippery rocks, and some narrow passages. Solid hiking shoes or water shoes are highly recommended to ensure stability and safety. In some parts, you might need to wade through shallow water to continue, so waterproof footwear or the willingness to get your feet wet is key. The trail culminates at the main waterfall, where a rope ladder offers an exciting option for those brave enough to jump into the cool waters below.
While the hike is not overly strenuous, it's important to consider the conditions. The midday sun can make the ascent feel more challenging, so an earlier start is often suggested. Despite the occasional difficulty, the stunning scenery and the opportunity for a refreshing swim make the effort well worthwhile for most visitors.
