What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
This church is appreciated for its beautiful Orthodox architecture and the stunning views from its elevated location, making it a lovely place for prayer and reflection. However, some visitors have experienced disturbances due to noise from staff and other patrons, which can detract from the intended peaceful atmosphere.
"I love discovering churches, but I mainly go there to pray!
I’ve never been so disturbed in a church in all my life. the man cleaning the church had a bunch of keys hanging from his belt that bounced and clinked loudly against his leg with every step and movement. He was chatting noisily with a very small boy, which to me was not a good example to set.
I tried not to lose my patience and continued praying, when suddenly I jumped from the bench — the man’s phone rang extremely loudly and echoed throughout the church. He sat down, answered it, and spoke as if he were in a bar, that church have quiet a big echo so do you imagine the load ! I really used hear poêle talking, laughing in a church but never at the point to not allowed you to pray, never !
Greeks speak very very loudly!
Then I saw some Popes (priests) arriving and thought, “Okay, maybe now he’ll be quieter…”
But no. The Popes saw me praying but kept talking among themselves without even whispering. A man came in from outside to speak to one of the Popes. They were just 5 meters away from me, and the Pope started speaking to him very loudly. The man from outside turned around to look at me — I think he was a bit shocked too, but seeing that the Pope spoke so freely, he responded and then left.
It was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had in a church during a moment of prayer.
I feel like all these people, who are supposed to be working for the good of the church, have forgotten the very essence of what a church is.
I’m not criticizing them, because I know they do a lot for the church, but please — may they wake up. Preventing someone from praying, even unintentionally, is a serious matter, especially in a church.
May God bless them, open their eyes to their inappropriate behavior, and guide them back to the right path"

Understanding the Orthodox Experience
While the church is a place of worship, it also serves as a community hub. Some visitors have noted that the clergy and staff are dedicated to the church's upkeep and activities. However, it's important to be aware that the acoustics in many Orthodox churches can amplify sound, which, combined with lively conversations, might be perceived as disruptive by those seeking absolute silence.
For those interested in the religious aspect, attending a service can be a profound experience. However, if your primary goal is quiet prayer, it might be best to visit during off-peak hours when services are not in session. The blend of spiritual devotion and community life is a hallmark of these sacred sites.
The Ascent and the Views
The elevated position of the church provides a vantage point to appreciate the surrounding landscape. This makes it an attractive spot not just for religious pilgrimage but also for sightseeing and photography. The effort involved in reaching the church can enhance the sense of accomplishment and the appreciation of the vistas.
When planning your visit, consider the time of day for the best photographic opportunities and the most comfortable walking conditions. Early mornings or late afternoons might offer softer light and cooler temperatures, making the ascent more enjoyable.
