What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the Monastery of Stomio, praising its breathtaking natural setting and spiritual significance. The hike along the Aoos River is a highlight, though the final steep ascent requires preparation. Many find the panoramic views from the monastery to be spectacular and the overall experience deeply rewarding.
"The journey along the river within the gorge is incredible. Much of it is shady and can be done quite easily even in the summer. On a very hot day, the river offers many opportunities to cool off and continue.
The monastery, in addition to its obvious attractions for the pious (especially for the admirers of St. Paisios), is a spectacular viewpoint as well.
So, though somewhat tiring for those out of shape, it's worth it through and through. The ascent should take about an hour and half, minus half an hour for athletic types and plus half an hour for the elderly or those unaccustomed to trekking. There is water to refill on the way. An overall wonderful experience for most."

"This needs definitely to be included in your visit to Zagoria area !!! Apart from the obvious religious reasons (Saint Paisios rebuilt the Monastery with the support of the local people back in 1960s), the scenery and the view of Vikos Canyon and Aoos River are stunning!! The trail to get to the Monastery is 5km long most of which alongside the river and under shadow (we started walking the trail at 11am - you should start either earlier or much later to avoid sun and heat) and the last 1km is the hardest part (uphill, rocky and steep trail - absolutely necessary to have water and hiking shoes & equipment)"

"Nice old monastery. Beautiful location near river in the mountains, about 850 m altitude. But you have to go to this Saint monestery 5 km from the parking place, from the Konitsa Stone bridge. Be prepared! No pubs, no rest places. It is beautiful piligrime road. After 2500 m will be first water source. 4500 m the next one."
