What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Lekatsa Monastery and Forest for its magical, inspiring, and peaceful atmosphere, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Ionian Sea and a beautiful natural sanctuary within the forest. However, many note that the monastery's opening hours are inconsistent, leading to disappointment when it's found closed.
"Monastery of Faneromeni - Lekatsas is a charming monastery in the heart of a mountainous area with panoramic view over the Ionian Sea. The monastery is exceptionally reserved and only one monk currently lives there, a unique man, smiling and enlightening.
Once a year, residents of the area gather in this beautiful place, to celebrate the Agios Pnevmatos feast.
In the center of the monastery stands a small and holy church. And the whole place is well kept, with beautiful grass and seasonal flowers.
To get there, it is recommended to drive through the village of Megadenro, and at its west edge, to take the road 300 meters west, and from there, to take the new asphalt road (appears on the map accidentally as a dirt road), which winds about 4.5 km between trees, up to the monastery parking lot.
Bottom line:
Magical, inspiring and very peaceful site, in the heart of the nature. Highly recommended!"

"Fantastic location.
2 very nice monks.
Visits to the monastery are only possible 10 days before the Assumption of Mary in the evening! Or perhaps during a church service."

"Nice Monastery in a beautiful forest, the road is not very good and the Monastery is not always open, you get there and you don't go inside. The place is beautiful in the greenery with a view of the Ionian Sea, a real sanctuary!! The Lekatsa forest is a refuge for wild animals and needs protection!"
