Kallithea Springs is a fun beach day! Adult entry is €4. A beach chair was €25 per person when I visited, free beach option too but space is limited. There is a restaurant overlooking the ocean and beautiful grounds to explore. #kalltheasprings #rhodes #greece #greekislands #rhodesgreece #beach #holiday #travelinspo #oceantherapy

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Hydra for its stunning beauty, car-free charm, and artistic ambiance, making it a highly recommended day trip from Athens. However, some feel a single day isn't enough to fully appreciate its magic, and the island can get quite touristy during peak times. Instagram+2

"Overall a great experience. The first island is worth the 3hours cruise, the second is not that interesting and the entire day is all about timing, I would rather cut the second Island of Poros and enjoy more time in Hydra and Egina to visit and buy some gifts
But the rest of the day was great, good atmosphere on board, good food for lunch and very affordable prices from the drinks.
The guide tour on the last island is worth it as well, just with more time on could enjoy both the temple and the church and not force to choose before running back to the boat on time."

Victor-Alexis Rosères

"The whole tour was lovely. Exploring the different islands, enjoying the culture and listening to the history, was the best part of my trip to Greece. Definitely recommend paying for the excursions! Unforgettable experience! The staff on board were also nice and very helpful. Will definitely come back again!"

Kierra Lee

"Well run cruise with island tours. Big island excursions are extra, but worth the cost, 22-24 euro per person. Buffet style lunch was acceptable. Be prepared with running shoes and a tight schedule all day. Ship was well run and staffed."

Navigating Hydra: The Car-Free Experience

Hydra's most defining characteristic is its complete absence of cars, motorbikes, and even bicycles. This car-free policy is strictly enforced and contributes significantly to the island's tranquil atmosphere and unique charm. Instagram Getting around is an adventure in itself, relying on your own two feet, the traditional donkey transport, or the convenient water taxis that ply the coastline. Instagram This means packing comfortable walking shoes is not just a suggestion, but a necessity for exploring the winding cobblestone streets and hilly terrain. InstagramReddit

Donkeys are a quintessential part of the Hydra experience, offering a novel way to navigate the steeper paths or transport luggage. While they provide a unique photo opportunity and a traditional mode of transport, it's worth noting that some visitors prefer to walk to avoid any ethical concerns. Instagram Water taxis are readily available at the main port and can whisk you away to various beaches or smaller settlements along the coast, offering a scenic and efficient way to cover more ground if your time is limited. Instagram

The car-free nature of Hydra makes it a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of mainland life. It encourages a slower pace, allowing visitors to truly immerse themselves in the island's beauty and soak in the serene ambiance. This unique characteristic is a major draw for those seeking a more authentic and relaxed Greek island experience. Instagram

Hydra's Artistic Soul and Photographic Appeal

Hydra has long been a magnet for artists, writers, and photographers, drawn by its stunning natural light, picturesque architecture, and bohemian vibe. The island's unique aesthetic, characterized by its stone mansions, narrow alleys, and vibrant bougainvillea, provides endless inspiration and captivating scenes. Instagram+2 The way the sunlight plays on the whitewashed walls and the deep blue of the Aegean Sea creates a magical atmosphere that is particularly appealing to creatives. Instagram

For photographers, Hydra offers a wealth of opportunities. The main port is a hive of activity, with colorful fishing boats bobbing in the water and neoclassical buildings lining the waterfront. Instagram Venturing into the labyrinthine streets reveals hidden courtyards, charming doorways, and unexpected vistas. Instagram Coastal paths lead to breathtaking viewpoints and secluded coves, perfect for capturing dramatic seascapes. Instagram Many visitors find that a single day trip is insufficient to fully capture the island's essence, with the beautiful light and scenery often prompting a desire for a longer stay. Instagram+1

When planning your photographic endeavors, consider visiting during the golden hours of early morning or late afternoon for the most flattering light. Instagram The island's beauty is amplified during sunset, offering spectacular opportunities for memorable shots. Instagram While the island is undeniably beautiful, remember that it can get crowded, so exploring during off-peak hours or finding quieter spots can lead to more unique and personal photographic discoveries.
