Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the spectacular panoramic views from Assos Castle, calling the hike worthwhile despite the heat and challenging terrain. The historical ruins and the charm of Assos village below are also frequently praised. Some find the museum section abandoned and overgrown, and the hike can be strenuous in summer.
"Nice hike but in the sun can be quite hard. Old ruins of the Assos medieval castle with a great view from the top. Parking available but best to go in the morning to avoid crowds and find a parking spot. At noon the access roads may become full as they are narrow and plenty of cars parked on the way."

"The caste it on top of a rock/hill to it is quite a walk to get to the top. when I went (end july) it was very hot and the walking trail contains part where their is no shadow. But when I arrived at the top the view was worth the hike. There wasn't anyone else, at the top you can fallow a stone road which looks like a dead end, but at the end of the road their is another walking trail hidden behind an old building which leads you back down. The sandpath is smaller and takes you along the side of the hill. It eventually merges back with the main road."

"The castle ruin is OK, it's a lovely walk with spectacular views of the beautiful Assos village which it's self is the most beautiful place on the island. The walk up to the ruin is a long gradual climb on a very wide stone path. 1200 meters from the top you have a choice to take another path of 800 meters which is off track and for the more adventurous. We carried on the main, easy walking path. At the top you walk through an arch and your now on another stone path inside the ruin walls. The path, although new could be difficultn to walk on for some maybe. You have a choice of left or right. We went left thinking it would bring us around in a circle, it didn't. It took us down another long path winding down until we found some ruins and remains of buildings. Also there was either a renovated or new building which looks like they have built then run out of money. The stone path runs out here but there are other possible routes that might take you on to other spots of interest. We decided that was enough for us.
Just off of one of the ruined buildings on the side of the island was a small arch hidden slightly by a very small uphill off track walk of just a few metres. This leads to the pathway we saw on the way up. It is narrow in places but the views are amazing. It also cuts out the long climb back to the top where you first entered the walls of the castle."
