What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Estate Argyros for its exceptional wines, particularly the Assyrtiko and Vinsanto, and the educational tasting experiences. The modern facilities, beautiful vineyard views, and friendly, informative staff contribute to an outstanding visit. It's considered a must-do for wine lovers seeking quality and a serene atmosphere away from the crowds.
"INCREDIBLE! This is a must do/see when you are on the island! Amazing staff really help educate you on the history of the wine. We brought home 3 bottles! Just spectacular!"
Irena Kashuba
"I was there for a wine tasting during my stay on the island of Santorini. I am a wine enthusiast and I was aware of the Santorini wines, especially the Assyrtiko grapes, so I was sure that the wines I was going to taste were great.
Domaine Argyros confirmed this in a wonderful location. It is the largest private winery on the island and it's a really nice place. We did the 6 wines tasting (€40 per person) which allowed us to discover the estate's premium wines. Vinsanto was a new discovery for me and the Niktery Santorini was my favourite.
As they don't have the phillossera here, you get to taste wines made from 200 year old grapes.
The wine expert who did the tour and tasting with us, Elena, really nice and friendly, explained everything about the wines with great English.
If you are a wine lover I recommend the premium tasting (Taste the real Santorini tour), there's no point in coming here and not trying their best wines to save a few euros on your holiday.
Plus: I'm always afraid of food at wine tastings. Sometimes all you have is some crackers. Here they gave high quality cheese, olive oil, fish and sweets."
Alessandro Bizzarri
"Beautiful winery with a modern, luxurious cellar door. Wine tasting was relaxed with a generous food plate and a fabulous view of the vineyards. The short tour before the tasting was very instructive about the ‘kouloura’: the unique vine training system of Santorini. Our favourite wine tasting in Santorini!"

The Unique Terroir of Santorini Wines
The 'kouloura' vine training system is a testament to this adaptation. Vines are pruned into a low, basket-like shape, protecting the grapes from the harsh winds and intense sun. This traditional method is still practiced by many Santorini wineries, including Estate Argyros, and is a fascinating aspect to learn about during a visit.
This unique environment is particularly suited for the Assyrtiko grape, which is native to Santorini. Assyrtiko wines from the island are celebrated for their crisp minerality, citrus notes, and remarkable aging potential, making them a must-try for any wine enthusiast visiting Santorini.
Exploring Estate Argyros's Wine Offerings
Beyond their signature Assyrtiko, Estate Argyros also produces exceptional Vinsanto, a traditional sweet dessert wine. Made from sun-dried grapes and aged for many years, Vinsanto offers complex notes of caramel, dried fruit, and honey, often described as tasting like 'liquid chocolate caramel.' They also offer other varietals and blends, including the highly-regarded Cuvée Monsignori and Cuvée Nykteri, each offering a unique expression of the island's terroir.
During a tasting at Estate Argyros, you'll have the opportunity to sample these wines and learn about their production from knowledgeable staff. Many visitors rave about the quality of the wines and the educational aspect of the tasting experience.
