"The Cave of Lakes is a very beautiful, pleasant, and fascinating place. It has high ceilings and many stalactites that look like giant lamps or pieces of fabric. There is lighting all along the cave, which creates a magical atmosphere. There is a comfortable and safe ramp to walk on, and it’s nice to follow the guide. The tour is given in both Greek and English. Entrance costs €9 for adults and €4.5 for children. The walking path is only 500 meters long, but the experience is impressive. This is one of the best caves we have visited. Everything is clean, well-kept, and organized.
Tours start according to a schedule — a new group begins approximately every 30 minutes. Unfortunately, we couldn’t take a picture of the exact timetable.
Phone cameras are allowed, but using flash is not permitted. In general, with a stabilizer, you can get excellent photos and videos.
Note that the cave is closed on Tuesdays, like many attractions in Greece."

"We visited the cave on Sunday morning. We arrived around 9:30 and were among the first there. Even when we left, it wasn’t crowded at all. It’s a bit chilly inside the cave, so it’s recommended to bring a long-sleeve shirt, but it’s not mandatory—we managed fine with short clothes and sandals. The place is amazing!! For anyone staying in the area, it’s definitely worth the 30–60 minute drive.
On our tour there were only two families in total, both English-speaking, but the guide barely spoke English and couldn’t explain much beyond a few words and pantomime. You can download an audio guide at the entrance, but of course, it’s not the same. I tried to follow along with the audio guide, but the guide was rushing and didn’t match the audio guide pace. That’s the only point for improvement.
Definitely recommended to visit the place—and finish it off with ice cream."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge
The Unique Geology of the Cave of Lakes
Visitors often express awe at the sheer scale and natural artistry within the cave. The lighting system is carefully designed to enhance the visual appeal of the rock formations and the water, contributing to a magical ambiance. While the walking path is relatively short at 500 meters, the visual impact is significant, making it a memorable experience for many.
It's important to note that during drier periods, some of the 'lakes' may appear as dry basins. For the most spectacular views of the water features, planning a visit after periods of significant rain is highly recommended. This seasonality is a key factor for travelers to consider when planning their trip to fully appreciate the cave's namesake lakes.
Historical Significance and Museum
The modern museum adjacent to the cave serves as an excellent complement to the underground tour. It is well-curated and provides detailed information about the cave's history, geology, and the artifacts discovered within. The museum is typically presented in English, making it accessible and informative for international visitors.
Exploring the museum before or after your cave tour enhances the overall understanding and appreciation of the site. It bridges the gap between the natural wonder of the cave and its long-standing human connection, offering a more complete historical narrative.
Navigating the Tour Experience
However, a recurring point of feedback from visitors concerns the quality and language proficiency of the guides. While tours are often advertised as bilingual (Greek and English), some travelers have reported that the English explanations can be limited or rushed, making it difficult to fully grasp the information. To mitigate this, visitors are encouraged to download an audio guide from the entrance, which can provide more detailed commentary at your own pace.
For the best experience, consider visiting during off-peak hours to potentially have a smaller group and more attentive guide. Bringing a stabilizer for your phone can also greatly improve the quality of photos and videos you capture within the cave's atmospheric lighting.
