Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Philopappos Hill for its breathtaking, unobstructed views of the Acropolis, especially during sunset. The free access and relatively peaceful atmosphere make it a highly recommended alternative to more crowded historical sites. Some caution is advised regarding safety after dark.

"I was curious about it because I had seen it from the Acropolis. It is right across the street and it's a great place for watching the sunset. Quite a hike so if you bring flip flops be extra careful"

Urban Traveler

"You can see this monument easily from the Acropolis, and as you can imagine it’s a great place to get photos of the western side of the Acropolis in return! A hilly walk but shaded on the way up/down, it rewards you with a lovely viewpoint from the top. The monument itself is less interesting but has information.
I’d recommend walking up the steeper north side (past Socrates prison cave) to enjoy a slower walk down to the west for more viewpoints as you go."

The Polite One

"Great views out across the city, with especially perfect ones of the Acropolis. It wasn't too busy when we visited a couple of times during our trip to Athens, and was quite a peaceful place to sit and admire the vistas."
