Ancient Thera is located on top of the Mesa Vouno Mountain on Santorini island. This mountain separates the villages of Perissa and Kamari. It is 365 meters high and involves driving or walking one of the scariest winding roads you will ever witness. Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Ancient Thera for its breathtaking panoramic views and extensive, well-preserved ruins, offering a tangible connection to Santorini's rich history. The hike up is considered a rewarding experience, especially in the off-season when crowds are minimal. Some find the winding road to the site thrilling, while others note the need for good footwear and ample water.

"Totally worth a visit. It’s wonderful to be so high up over the black beach and the sea turns turquoise blue below you.

I hiked up from Perissa and it was a really nice little hike, maybe 45 minutes, and what a reward at the top. I visited in the off season, so I got a treat of seeing Thera alone, without anyone else there.

It’s just beautiful and you can imagine the people living there throughout the centuries. The ruins are much more extensive than I had originally expected with streets and many, many structures to wander through.

Don’t miss this. Unlike Akrotiri, this site has amazing views and is simply breathtaking."
