Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Agios Silas Monastery for its breathtaking panoramic views of Kavala and the Aegean Sea, calling it a rewarding and uplifting experience. The historical significance, particularly its connection to Apostle Paul, adds a profound spiritual dimension. While generally well-received, some note that amenities are basic, as expected for a functioning monastery.

"The monastery of Agios Sillas, beyond its impressive location, above the city of Kavala, has also a great importance in the tradition of the religion. According to tradition, the Apostle Paul and his associates Silas, Timothy and Luke sat down to rest at this place, on their way from the port of Naples to the city of Philippi where they founded the first Church in Europe.
This fact is also mentioned in a marble column that is located in front of the Katholikon of the Monastery.
The first church that was established at the site, was the the small church that was founded on June 12, 1937, and after a lot of efforts, the new majestic Church, that was designed in Byzantine style, was inaugurated on May 20, 1956.
The place is sacred and inspiring, and and has great importance for the residents of the area."

"Next to the ancient Egnatia Highway and in one of the highest and most beautiful locations a few kilometers outside the city of Kavala, the Holy Monastery of Saint Silas has been built. Saint Silas was a disciple of the Apostle Paul and during one of their tours, he died in this area. This monastery was built in his honor. In the same area there is a monument that mentions the above event, the tomb of the late Metropolitan Prokopios, a chapel dedicated to Saint Anthimos and a small zoo. The monastery celebrates on July 30, the day of remembrance of Saint Silas, and on September 3, the days of remembrance of Saint Anthimos."
