"A Hidden Treasure of Byzantine Glory
The Byzantine Museum of Ioannina, beautifully located within the Its Kale citadel, is a true gem for anyone passionate about art, history, and spirituality. Housed in a former Ottoman building with stunning views over Lake Pamvotida, the museum holds a rich collection of icons, mosaics, manuscripts, and sacred relics from the Byzantine and post-Byzantine eras.
Each room feels like a journey through centuries of faith, craftsmanship, and cultural fusion, with detailed explanations and a peaceful ambiance that invites contemplation. The blend of Byzantine solemnity and local Epirus character makes this museum unique.
It’s not large, but it’s deeply atmospheric and wonderfully curated. A must-visit for anyone exploring the castle complex—and a perfect place to feel the spiritual heartbeat of Ioannina’s past."

"A lot to see. It could be a bit more interactive in order nowadays teens to be also inspired but overall a great place!"

"Download the free audio guide (Proxitour) and bring headphones. Not sure why they don't advertise it, but it gives you so much more depth to what you're seeing. The ticket gives you access to the treasury (silversmithing work nearby: not the silver working museum) and the Mosque, which explains who Ali Pasha is.
With the audio guide, you get information on all three sites, and if you listen to everything could easily spend 1.5-2 hours wandering around the complex. Without it, it might take you 30 minutes?"
