"Simply beautiful.
I was there in the summer (during summer vacation). Still quiet, well-marked hiking trails, clean public restrooms, and lots of nature.
Also good for hiking with small children who don't cover much ground, as there are also short routes. The information signs about behavior toward wolves are also really well received.
I don't know if it's worth it in the winter, but it probably is."

"The Veldenstein Forest is one of the largest contiguous forest areas in Bavaria. It offers a fantastic natural experience. In the heart of the area lies the Hufeisen wildlife enclosure. Here, you can observe many native and less native animal species up close. Examples include wild boars, fallow deer, mouflons, and red deer. Numerous inns in the numerous villages in and around the Veldenstein Forest cater to your culinary needs. The forest itself boasts numerous natural attractions: the large Lochstein (rock formation), sinkholes, and ice holes. Many seemingly endless hiking trails wind through the dense forest. It's best not to leave the paths and trails to give the wildlife peace and quiet. Recently, there have also been increasing reports of wolf sightings. The trails are very well signposted, well-maintained, and require no special skills. Therefore, they are easily manageable for hikers of all ages. The numerous hiking parking lots used as starting points are available in sufficient numbers, are free of charge and offer space for a large number of cars."
