Reviews Summary

Passau's Christmas Market on Domplatz is praised for its romantic old city setting and unique Bavarian culinary offerings, particularly the roasted salmon and sweet sauerkraut. While some find it less musically festive than other markets, its cozy atmosphere and free entry make it a charming destination. Visitors appreciate the familiar stalls and the opportunity to enjoy local delicacies.

"Passau is a very romantic old city with many architectural features. It was very nice to take a walk there. We enjoyed their Christmas Market tremendously. They had salmon roasting on an open fire. It was at this market we decided to have lunch. Don bought a bratwurst and a dish with sauerkraut and noodles. I had some cheese thing that was mostly dough. I was hesitant to try the sauerkraut dish because of the possible consequences later, but I did. It was spectacular! I need to find out the German name of the dish. And there were no consequences! Apparently, they cook Bavarian Sauerkraut differently, it’s more brown and a bit sweeter. We looked for it at other Christmas Markets, but we couldn’t find it again."

"Interesting local small Christmas market with varieties of finger foods, hot drinks with alcohol."

"The market is highly recommended. It is significantly smaller than in Dresden or Regensburg, but every year it offers exactly the same stalls in the same places, so you know where to come back and what to taste. Jagertee, Hot Aperol, Raclette, 1/2 meter Wurst, Handbrot and Schneeballen are a guarantee. Refundable deposit for mugs €3, Glühwein €4, other drinks €5.

Around 3pm the market is still relatively empty, from 5pm onwards it is not much to go further.

On the other hand, the Schnitzelsemmel was really not a success."
