What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Nanstein Castle for its historical significance, beautiful views, and reasonable entry fee. The opportunity to explore the ruins and imagine past eras is a major draw. However, some find the on-site food options to be mediocre, and parking can be a bit of a challenge.
"Beautiful views. Wonderful old castle. You can go clear to the top and down underneath. Several different rooms. Several steps up and down throughout the castle. Cost is 6 euros to visit. Very reasonable. Has public restrooms on site. Small parking lot, a little challenging to find a spot."

"Wasn’t sure where to park at first then saw it across the street from the church. Go up beside the church on quite a few stairs and then up some
More to get to the castle. This is the hardest part of the trail. At the top the was a little restaurant bar area and you can enjoy the castle tour in your own. Then we continued on the loop trail and the forest was beautiful and an easy hike that was right at 3 miles. Lots of trails connecting so I downloaded the map off AllTrails to make sure we stayed on trail. Overall great day with the family."

"We visited yesterday, July 30. It's a good hike up, but well worth the beautiful view. I've gone through this castle before. I'm eternally fascinated by super old buildings, and this one was built in 1150. Just imagine what history it holds, like the old adage "if only these walls could talk!" I would definitely recommend going inside Nanstein. The beer garden serves bad fries and ordinary food, not well prepared. My wine tasted like it came from 7-11, but they did have a bigger selection of beers."
