"We visited two wonderful museums. Both museums are very close to each other and both are free.
And now about museum number two, which is currently hosting an exhibition of the artist Emil Nolte. We do not understand much about painting, but we really liked the artist's work. The museum itself leaves a very good impression: a comfortable large hall, a wonderful cinema with a film about the artist. A cozy cafe gives a great opportunity to sit and share impressions. And of course, we recommend this place 100%."

However, my experience was overshadowed by the prominent exhibition dedicated to Emil Nolde. While Nolde is undoubtedly a significant figure in German Expressionism, it is deeply troubling to see such extensive celebration of an artist with a well-documented history of fascist sympathies. Nolde was not just affiliated with the Năzi Party—he was an early and enthusiastic supporter of Hiłler, joining the party in the early 1930s and writing admiring letters to Nǎzi leaders. Although some of his works were labeled “degenerate art” by the regime, he continued to express loyalty to Nå*zi ideology and anti-Sẽmitic views even after being banned from exhibiting.
To see such a figure given center stage in an otherwise progressive and modern museum was disappointing. Artistic merit is important, but so is context—and this exhibition felt like a missed opportunity to confront and critically engage with Nolde’s full legacy. Art doesn’t exist in a vacuum, and neither should our cultural institutions."
