What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise St. Martin Church Garmisch for its unexpectedly beautiful and elaborately decorated Baroque interior, featuring stunning frescoes and gilded altars. While the exterior is modest, the inside offers a peaceful and awe-inspiring experience, making it a worthwhile stop for quiet contemplation or to witness an authentic Bavarian Catholic service.
"Not too far from the main street in Garmisch is this quiet church. Large enough to be seen from the top of Mt. Wank, like others, it is simple on the outside topped by an onion dome on the single tower and with a small garden area, and elaborately decorated on the inside with gilded frames and highly frescoed ceilings. The church is just enough off of the main path through Garmisch that it is very quiet and not a lot of people unless there is a service.
Even though there are no true masterpieces inside, it is very beautiful and inviting to contemplation. Would recommend visiting with an experienced guide if you can to get the full history."

"We worth popping in to see the gilded statues and alters...don't forget to look up as there are a number of detailed ceiling paintings and look to the back and see the huge organ."
