Der Altstädter Weihnachtsmarkt – dieses Jahr maximal heimelig, fast schon mit Wagenburg-Faktor ❤️🎄 ✨ Highlights sind u.a. Reviews Summary

The Altstädter Friedhof is recognized as one of Erlangen's oldest cemeteries, offering historical insights and a mature, tree-filled landscape. While recent path renovations have improved accessibility, some visitors note ongoing maintenance issues and significant daytime noise from nearby highways and railways. The annual St. Martin's Shrine event is a unique highlight.

"Every year on November 11th, the shrine of St. Martin in St. Martin's Church opens. This is unique in Erlangen and never ceases to amaze me. There's no soundproofing on the Frankenschnellweg road. It's unpleasant, but it will stay that way. The paths have been well-renovated and are now accessible even in inclement weather. For years, we were able to keep weeds, dandelions, and the like away from the graves through careful maintenance, until they finally became too much. But the lawn is carefully mowed, and it looks tidy. Many thanks to our cemetery gardener."

Inge Dollinger

"An old cemetery in Erlangen that is neglected! For example, as of now, August benches will no longer be set up after the 2021/2022 winter break (e.g. under the large metal cross in the southernmost area), paths here are covered with centimeters of weeds as tripping hazards, water points and storage racks for watering cans are still there, but watering cans are no longer provided. The cemetery now looks very unkempt and neglected.
Things were different in the previous ten years.
Even the pavement of the parking lot has been torn up in places for over a year, and it remains that way. All things that no one can overlook. It looks like excessive demands or mismanagement.

Some visitors are downright horrified. A visitor to Erlangen recently said: ...just as inviting as the big city train station in Erlangen.... What's going on here??"

Michael B.

"Beautifully situated cemetery with lots of trees. Unfortunately, it's located directly between the highway and the railway, making it very noisy during the day."
