"Celle, the city of short distances, has something to offer everyone. The approximately 500 listed half-timbered houses house cute boutiques and special shops (I reported on them), cafés, and restaurants with a wide range of offerings. Those who book a city tour can take it in the evening with a night watchman or, more modernly, take the Time Ride-GO!, a virtual city tour into the past, for example, as a witness to a knight's tournament on the Stechbahn. The half-timbering of the houses features many inscriptions, about which a city guide has many anecdotes to share. The Müller Tour starts in front of Celle Castle; the narrow-gauge railway visits parks and gardens and is accessible for people with walking difficulties. The tourist information office is located in the old town hall not far from the Stechbahn; in front of it are the two historic pillories and a bronze model of the old town. Next to the town hall is St. Mary's Church, popularly known as the town church. The church tower can be climbed. From up there you can definitely see as far as the "Nordsee" (fish shop). In the warmer months, tours of the church or the princely crypt are offered. There are four bells hanging in the bell tower which ring every Friday shortly before 8 p.m. If the wind is right, you can hear their ringing as far as Westercelle. The Christmas and holiday masses are particularly popular here. Every day at around 4:45 p.m. a tower musician climbs the 75 m high tower and blows a chorale in all four directions. If you look down at the ground near the lance on the Stechbahn towards the Bomann Museum, you will see a horseshoe. According to legend, Duke Otto II fell from his horse during a tournament and found his death there. The Bomann Museum has permanent exhibitions on folklore, town and regional history. On the opposite side is the Welfenschloss with its moat and castle park, which can be visited. The castle houses the oldest Baroque theater still in use today, a castle chapel with completely preserved Renaissance furnishings. If you look up at the Müller drugstore, you'll discover 16 bells and a square case containing wooden figures, inhabited by Celle figures. Among them are Ludwig C.H. Hölty, Herman Löns, Queen Caroline Mathilde of Denmark, Duke Ernst the Confessor, and Duke Otto the Strict. The carillon is out of service during the winter months. Since the Hoppener Haus (Poststr./ Rundestr. (near the talking lanterns) is the most magnificent half-timbered house with carvings of diabolical and foolish figures, mythical creatures, grotesques and reptiles, as well as a bust of Duke Ernst next to the elevator hatch in the gable, it is one of Celle's sights. From here, you walk along the large map and come to Huth's Coffee and Delicatessen. There you travel back in time. Coffee has been roasted here since 1898 and there are all kinds of delicacies as well as regional food. If you want to make a detour to the Holy Cross, you will pass by the oldest house in Celle, diagonally opposite C&A. As already mentioned, not far from the old town, you can discover the French Garden and the new Town Hall. Behind the castle park are the Congress Union, the Trift Gardens and the train station. Towards the Higher Regional Court, you will come to the Schützenplatz, the newly designed harbor. Over the Pfennig Bridge, you will reach the Dammaschwiese and the former manor house of Albrecht Thaer and the medicinal plant garden. Take your time and let the historic old town work its magic on you. Celle has many hotels and charming guesthouses."
