What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Kino International is celebrated as a charming, historic cinema with amazing sound and picture quality, offering a unique, nostalgic experience. While some find it lacks modern amenities like stable WiFi or senior discounts, its classic aesthetic and architectural significance make it a beloved Berlin gem for film and history buffs.
"When in attendance for any film at this particular cinema, you will be walking in history. Built in 1961-1963 Kino International is a Berlin gem for all film and architecture enthusiasts alike. Located in east Berlin all Russian influence can be noticed but there is beauty in the design of former communist area. Today Kino International does carry a historic landmark status and yes there is a concession stand. The movie I saw in the theatre was The Zone of Interest to a sold out show. Sound and picture quality were amazing. Run do not walk in Berlin to check out this historic site."

"To me, one of the most charming cinema in Europe. Doesn’t matter if it is not the most updated one: the sound could be better, the seats more comfortable, the screen more futuristic... no. Kino international is a experience, like driving a old Aston Martin. Just beautiful."

"It’s one of my favourite Kino in Berlin.
I go to the cinema running by Yorck a lot.
But I just knew they don’t offer a senior ticket.
There was an old lady wanted to see a movie in this lovely cinema yesterday, but she was disappointed after find out the price is too expensive.I felt so sorry for her.
I believe a good cinema,a good company is responsible to bring joy for everyone.
Moreover, there’s no stable WiFi.When I asked the lady work in the bar yesterday…She just answered me”Sorry,if the password doesn’t work,it meant it doesn’t work tonight…”
I was a bit disappointed yesterday after all these things happened.
I know the company probably won’t check this comment and try to improve their service at all,but I really hope there’s still a chance to tell them."

A Glimpse into Berlin's Cinematic Past
Today, Kino International stands as a historic landmark, preserving its original charm while offering a modern cinematic experience. The auditorium has been refurbished with comfortable seating, and the venue continues to screen films in their original versions. Its location on Karl-Marx-Allee, a grand boulevard from the GDR era, adds to its historical significance.
However, this iconic venue is slated for a significant change. In March, Kino International will close its doors for a two-year renovation, aiming to preserve its legacy while modernizing its facilities. This presents a limited window for visitors to experience its current, classic ambiance before the transformation.
Photography Opportunities at Kino International
Inside, the high-ceilinged bar area and the entrance hall exude a nostalgic atmosphere, perfect for capturing the essence of a bygone era. Even on overcast days, the diffused light can create beautiful, atmospheric shots. While the cinema is primarily a place to watch films, its visual appeal extends beyond the screen. Whether you're a professional photographer or just looking for a memorable shot, Kino International offers plenty of opportunities to capture stunning images that reflect Berlin's rich architectural and cultural heritage.
