What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Paracelsus-Therme Bad Liebenzell offers a mixed bag of experiences. Visitors praise the beautiful outdoor pools, the relaxing panorama sauna with views, and the decent onsite restaurant. However, some recent guests have noted a strong chlorine smell in the water and an increase in noise from children, impacting the tranquil atmosphere. There have also been isolated reports of staff rudeness and issues with sauna functionality.
"It was our first time in a thermal pool/sauna. We wanted to try this one as it is in the middle of the Black Forest. The experience was amazing. The staff members speak English too. Card payment was accepted. We can rent bath towels and robes for 4 EUR each. This facility has a big free parking lot available. We should take the parking ticket to the reception to validate it. After making the payment at reception, we will get a token to access the facility. There is a free locker option, where we can keep our stuff. The outer pool's temperature was just enough and not too high. But one of the inner pools has hot water. The saunas are very hot. Overall, it was a refreshing experience."

"I have loved the Paracelsus springs for many years, but my recent visit left me deeply disappointed. The waters, once so healing and refreshing, now feel heavy with chlorine—so strong that my hair tangles, my eyes burn, and at times I can hardly breathe. Outside, what they call a “sensory experience” with essential oils was overwhelming; instead of something natural and soothing, it smelled synthetic, like perfumed laundry detergent, making it hard to get any fresh oxygen. In past years, the atmosphere here felt pure and restorative, but sadly that has been lost.
Another surprise was the number of screaming children. It was never like that in the past, and honestly, a place meant for relaxation and healing is not the right environment for children. The noise completely disrupted the sense of peace that once defined this space.
On the positive side, the restaurant serves very good food. However, be aware that the full menu is no longer available after 7:30 pm, which feels unnecessarily strict.
I truly hope they return to what once made this place so special—clean, healing waters, a natural atmosphere, and a sense of quiet restoration"

"We visited the Therme today and were overall very satisfied with our stay. The outdoor pool area particularly impressed me. The variety of water pressure options was excellent – from gentle massage jets to more powerful currents, there was something for everyone. This really made the time in the water diverse and enjoyable. Panorama sauna with an awesome view was very enjoyable.
The attached restaurant also made a good impression. It offers a solid selection of dishes that are decent quality and fit well with the ambiance of a spa. You can enjoy a meal there in a relaxed atmosphere without feeling like you're in a fast-food joint.
The Therme is definitely worth a visit if you are looking for relaxation and water fun. I can wholeheartedly recommend it."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge
The Thermal Waters: Healing or Hype?
However, recent reviews have raised concerns about the water quality, with some guests noting a strong chlorine smell that can be irritating to the eyes and respiratory system. This starkly contrasts with past experiences where the waters were perceived as pure and restorative. It's worth noting that water treatment protocols can change, and individual sensitivities vary. If you have concerns about chlorine, it might be wise to inquire about their current water treatment methods or opt for shorter visits.
Despite these concerns, many still find the varied pool temperatures and water pressure options to be a highlight, offering diverse ways to unwind and enjoy the aquatic environment.
Navigating the Sauna Experience
It's important to be aware of German sauna culture, which typically involves nudity in designated sauna rooms. While some visitors have reported negative interactions regarding attire, understanding this cultural norm is key. If you are uncomfortable with nudity, it's advisable to research if the facility offers specific 'textile' sauna times or days, or to be prepared for a traditional German sauna experience.
Visitors should also be mindful that sauna temperatures can be intense. It's recommended to start with shorter sessions, stay hydrated, and listen to your body. The effectiveness of the saunas can also be a point of discussion, with some guests feeling they are not as hot as expected or that not all facilities are operational.
Family Fun vs. Tranquil Retreat
However, this family-friendly atmosphere can sometimes lead to a higher noise level, which might disrupt the sense of peace for those seeking a purely tranquil escape. Some long-time visitors have expressed disappointment with the increase in children's noise, feeling it detracts from the spa's original restorative ambiance.
For those prioritizing quiet, visiting on weekdays during off-peak hours is highly recommended. This allows you to enjoy the thermal baths and saunas with fewer distractions, maximizing the relaxation potential of your visit.
