"A beautiful water fountain"

E K

"OK."

Martin D. Markovski

"The current fountain architecture was created in 1908 by the sculptor Anton Lussmann in Art Nouveau style. The small structure, facing the fountain avenue, was originally crowned by two flower-filled vases and featured a relief of a nymph at a rocky spring on its front. The depiction of the naked nymph met with criticism from the public, and it was therefore replaced in 1955 with a relief bust of Landgrave Friedrich II. This cast metal work is the work of Ortud Krüger-Stohlmann.

The fountain's water is an iron-rich sodium chloride acid solution with a temperature of 10.2 degrees Celsius. Another tap for this fountain's water is located behind the bandstand."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Artistic Evolution of Landgrafenbrunnen

The Landgrafenbrunnen, as it stands today, is a testament to artistic adaptation and public sentiment. The original 1908 design by sculptor Anton Lussmann showcased a vibrant Art Nouveau aesthetic, complete with flower-filled vases and a prominent relief of a nymph at a rocky spring. This depiction, however, proved controversial among the public of the time. The perceived boldness of the naked nymph led to its eventual removal.

In 1955, the fountain underwent a significant transformation. The nymph was replaced by a cast metal relief bust of Landgrave Friedrich II, a work by Ortud Krüger-Stohlmann. This change reflects a shift in artistic sensibilities and public acceptance, moving from a more classical, perhaps allegorical representation, to a more direct historical portrait. The current bust serves as a historical marker, connecting the fountain to the region's heritage. Reddit

Understanding the Therapeutic Waters

The water flowing from Landgrafenbrunnen is not just for decoration; it's a mineral-rich solution with specific therapeutic properties. It's characterized as an iron-rich sodium chloride acid solution, with a notable temperature of 10.2 degrees Celsius. This unique composition makes it one of the saltiest waters found in the Bad Homburg spa park. Reddit

Historically, this type of mineral water has been utilized for its potential benefits in treating ailments related to the liver and gallbladder. The high salt content and mineral composition are believed to aid in digestive processes and detoxification. However, due to its potency, visitors are cautioned against consuming it daily, suggesting it's best used under guidance or in moderation as part of a spa regimen. Another tap dispensing this same water can be found behind the park's bandstand. Reddit
