What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Moorea's whale watching tours for their incredible encounters and knowledgeable guides. The opportunity to swim with humpback whales is a highlight, alongside sightings of mothers and calves. Some reviews mention that boat comfort can vary between operators, and rough sea conditions can occasionally impact the experience.
"We went on another tour that gave us a 5 star experience, making it more clear that this one was not up to par. The boat is not very nice or comfortable compared to the other, and the vibe was generally not that good. I have been on many tours where regardless of what the whales are doing we still have a very enjoyable time. Unfortunately, we did not really enjoy this experience much and heard that other tours had ended up canceling that day because of how rough the conditions were..."

"The guide and boat operator were wonderful! Merci! Apart and aside from whales, the boat ride is fun and seeing the island is beautiful. We were lucky because it rained a lot overnight and the waterfalls were spectacular from the vantage of the sea. We enjoyed sharks and rays too."

"Best possible experience! The guides were fantastic, knowledgeable and super happy people. You can tell they really love their jobs and respect the whales, ocean, community, etc.
While we were waiting for other boats to spot the whales we stopped off at the shark/Ray sand bar by coco beach. Then headed out to where the whales were spotted. About half the group swam out to see the mom and calf and Moorea Deep Blue provided fins/snorkels to those who needed equipment.
10/10 recommend"

Ethical Whale Encounters in Moorea
When swimming with whales, the emphasis is on passive observation. Guides ensure that swimmers enter the water calmly and allow the whales to approach them if they choose. This approach fosters a deeper connection with these magnificent creatures while prioritizing their well-being.
Choosing an operator that adheres to these ethical guidelines is paramount. Look for companies that are transparent about their practices and have permits from local authorities. This ensures your experience contributes positively to whale conservation efforts.
Capturing the Magic: Photography Tips
When shooting from the boat, a telephoto lens can be invaluable for capturing breaching whales from a distance. Consider using burst mode to increase your chances of capturing the peak action. For underwater photography, focus on getting eye-level with the water and be prepared for the whales to approach you. Patience is key; sometimes the most incredible shots come when you least expect them.
Remember to protect your gear from saltwater and spray. Many photographers recommend using waterproof housings or protective cases for their cameras. Also, consider the lighting conditions; early mornings and late afternoons often provide softer, more dramatic light for your shots.

These lagoon excursions offer a fantastic complement to the main whale watching activity, providing a well-rounded taste of Moorea's incredible marine biodiversity. It's a chance to appreciate the smaller wonders of the Polynesian waters.
