What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the breathtaking Fautaua Falls and the unique infinity pool, calling the hike challenging but incredibly rewarding. The natural slides and pools offer a fun, adventurous experience, though the steep terrain and potential for rapid water level changes demand serious caution. The historical fort ruins add an interesting, albeit less prominent, element to the trek.
"Terrific hike with stunning views and an amazing grotto for a dip at the top, not to be missed. I had the whole place to myself. Can hike to the top or the bottom of the falls. When I went the river was too high to pass to access the bottom without a dry bag. Careful the current was strong."

"Ruins from the old fort up on the mountain here, on the way to Fautaua Falls. Pretty cool, although there are no structures, just some foundations and walls.
The trail up to here is SERIOUS; you absolutely need to bring a lot of water and be prepared for it to rain (even if it's a gorgeous day out). However, there is endless fruits on the way there, from avocado groves to pineapples to coconuts, mountain raspberries, and more!!
If you make it up to Fachoda, you must go to the infinity pool at the top of the waterfall, just exercise extreme caution. To get to the pool, you follow the wall that goes to the right off the main trail on the ridge, and then there are a series of ropes and near vertical climbs down to it.
Do not go down there if it's storming, and keep in mind it could be storming miles above this location. You will find that the water level can increase by 3-4 meters almost instantaneously, so again, exercise extreme caution. The infinity pool is literally at the edge of the waterfall."

"This place is amazing! You are basically swimming at the top of the waterfall! Was quite a hike to get to the top but man was it worth it! You will start the trail having a nice easy walk for a good 45min. Then you will come to a bridge on the left (see picture of bridge) or go straight to see the bottom of the falls (the bottom of the falls hike is much more difficult do to lack of visible trail). Take a left across the bridge and keep hiking to the top, don't give up I believe in you! You'll eventually see a great view of the falls (I added a pic) then keep going till you see an old green moss covered wall (it's been there for almost 200 years) take a right and fallow the wall. There will a really steep downhill climb with some ropes to hold onto. But at the bottom you will find a great 2 pool swimming area! You can slide from the top pool to the larger lower pool, and if you are looking for a good jump spot take off at the top ledge :) a 30 foot drop but if you hiked up here you might as well take the plunge!"

For those seeking an adrenaline rush, there's a spot for a 30-foot jump into the lower pool, but this should only be considered by experienced individuals who have assessed the conditions thoroughly.
Beyond the infinity pool, the lower pools offer a safer swimming area where visitors can slide from the top pool to the larger lower pool. Even here, awareness of the water's strength is important. The overall experience at the falls is described as a natural playground, but one that demands respect for its powerful natural forces.
