What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Étaples Town Hall is a historical landmark appreciated for its late 19th-century architecture and the significant clock tower. Visitors note the town's ongoing transformation and warm welcome, though concerns exist regarding nighttime lighting and the condition of certain roads like Avenue Pasteur.
"No RV park.
The existing one is occupied by locals who park their vehicles year-round. A real shame for the town, which is truly worth a stop. A shame for the shops."

"Nighttime Lighting Problem
I'm currently on crutches, and I'd like to point out that getting around at night in Étaples is very dangerous: there are no lights on some streets. You can't see anything, the sidewalks are uneven, and it poses a real risk of falling for people with disabilities, the elderly, or those who are frail.
⚠️ The city should really revisit this issue: residents' safety takes precedence over saving on lighting. A minimum of lighting on the main streets would already be a big step forward."

"Condition of Avenue Pasteur, this avenue has been deplorable for years and it is a shame to allow such degradation and above all that it is only a small part of the avenue!!!! One day an accident will occur in the car due to slaloming so as not to damage our vehicles, one day a person will be hurt by falling because of the holes or one day someone will file a complaint for this gross negligence!!!! For years we have been trying to make things happen so that this avenue is finally renovated as it should be for the well-being of all and especially of your residents!!!! A shame and of course a tragedy will have to happen to finally move! Ask yourself the question: if it was the pink bridge roundabout, the boulevard de l'Impératrice or the city center, would you have left this road in such a state???? After having published comments several times on your Facebook, now I am leaving this comment on Google, perhaps it should come to this to finally get feedback from the town hall because obviously 1 star and such photos spoil the beautiful comments of your dear tourists!!! Thank you for finally reacting after so many years of waiting!"

The History of Étaples Town Hall
Key architectural features include a colonnade added in January 1889 and the prominent clock tower. The clock itself, a significant historical artifact, was cast in 1734. Behind the main building, two outbuildings were added: one for a prison cell and another to store the fire department's water pumps. The first floor was designated for the on-duty police officer. The building was officially inaugurated on Sunday, September 14, 1890, marking a new era for the town's administration.
Adjacent to the Town Hall is the site of the former "Quentovic" museum, established to safeguard the region's archaeological heritage. The discovery of a substantial hoard of approximately 4,000 coins from the 3rd century in Étaples further highlights the area's rich past. The museum was named after the historical port of Quentovic, which was destroyed by Vikings in the 9th century. The town provided the "Dauphin d'Hallinghen" house, built in 1695, to house the museum's collections before its eventual closure and relocation of finds.
Navigating Étaples: Safety and Infrastructure
Another point of concern is the condition of Avenue Pasteur, which has been described as deplorable for years. The road surface is uneven and riddled with potholes, posing a risk to vehicles and pedestrians alike. Residents have expressed frustration over the lack of renovation, suggesting that a serious accident or complaint might be necessary to prompt action.
Despite these infrastructure challenges, the town is described as undergoing a 'complete transformation' while managing to 'retain its soul.' Visitors have experienced a 'very warm welcome,' indicating that the community spirit remains strong even as the town evolves.
