What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Reviews for Vichy Célestins Spa Hôtel are mixed. While guests appreciate the friendly staff, spacious rooms, and convenient location near parks and town, many point out dated spa facilities, high dining prices, and occasional room quirks like small toilets. The spa's additional cost and potential Sunday closures are also common concerns.
"I just checked in yesterday and have to share my experience. It's all hype and no substance, as I barely experienced the so-called hot springs. The hot spring facilities across the street are in a three-story building, but only a tiny corner on the second floor had a pool and two small saunas open. Is this a hot spring hotel? What's your selling point? The hotel itself is okay, but the facilities across the street are cold, dark, and practically nonexistent. The hot springs are a joke. If I had known this, I wouldn't have stayed at Vichy."

"Not a 5 star hotel by any means. We visited for just one night, the hotel is incredibly dated and the room had lots of flies.
The check in staff were nice and helpful and we had our bags taken to our room for us which was nice. We didn’t eat in the restaurant because the prices were extortionate and the general feel of the hotel was that it wasn’t worth the money so I felt the food wouldn’t be good.
The pool upstairs was warm but the features were incredibly dated and covered in limescale. And the door wasn’t working so we had to go through a side door to enter.
Also do not put your keycard in a wallet in your phone, as this deactivated it. I stay in hotels almost weekly and these old keycards that are affected by phone signal is an indicator to me that the hotel needs systems updating.
The hallway when we arrived absolutely stank (floor 4) but when we got into our room the smell was pleasant. In the morning when we exited our room it was clear someone on the floor was smoking as the smell was extremely obvious.
The room itself - the bathroom and shower were really nice with beautiful Rituals products and the shower had really good pressure. The area with the toilet is small and the toilet is facing a wall in the corner so if you are taller than 6 foot (I am) it’s going to be a problem to use the toilet with your long legs, I had to sit diagonal.
The spa is not included in the price so be aware of this when booking."

"We stayed just one night as we were passing through the area. The hotel is very pleasant and a good standard. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious enough for the price and the hotel dog friendly. My wife used the spa for a message. The facilities are extensive. The li action is good, easy to walk our dog in the park next door. Paid parking is underground. It’s a short walk to stroll along the river or into town."

Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Consider booking rooms with terraces for a pleasant view, but be aware of the potentially small toilet areas. If planning a family visit, focus on the hotel's comfortable rooms and the beautiful surroundings, rather than solely relying on the spa for entertainment. Exploring Vichy town and its parks might offer more engaging activities for younger guests.
💰 Budget Travelers
To make a stay more budget-conscious, consider visiting during the off-peak season or looking for special offers like those mentioned during Black Week. Prioritize which amenities are most important to you; if the spa is a must, factor in its cost. Otherwise, enjoy the comfortable rooms and the hotel's prime location for exploring Vichy on foot, which can save on transportation costs.

Enjoying a cocktail at the Blue Note piano-bar or a gourmet dinner at Le N3 can create memorable evenings. While some reviews mention dated aspects of the spa, the overall ambiance of the hotel, combined with the therapeutic benefits of Vichy's waters, can make for a rejuvenating and romantic getaway.

The Vichy Célestins Spa Experience
However, it's crucial to manage expectations. Some visitors have described the spa facilities as dated, resembling a hospital with plain white tiles, and found the pool to be small with limited features. Issues like non-working steam rooms or saunas, and a lack of clear signage have also been reported. The relaxation area can be quite small, accommodating only a few people. It's important to note that spa access is often an additional cost and may not be included in your room booking, with specific closures on Sundays being a common point of confusion for guests.
Despite these criticisms, many still find the spa experience to be a relaxing escape. The thermal water itself is a key draw, and a well-executed massage can be a highlight. For those seeking a tranquil environment and the benefits of thermal treatments, it can still be a worthwhile visit, provided you are aware of the potential limitations and extra costs.
Room Comforts and Quirks
However, a recurring theme in reviews points to certain dated aspects and design quirks. The toilet areas are frequently mentioned as being very small, sometimes positioned awkwardly against a wall, which can be problematic for taller individuals. Additionally, some guests have experienced issues with air conditioning, which can reportedly switch to heating mode as temperatures drop, and the old-style keycards are susceptible to deactivation if kept near a phone.
While the hotel aims for a luxurious feel, these minor inconveniences can impact the overall comfort. It's advisable to inquire about specific room features if you have particular needs, such as ample space or specific climate control preferences, to ensure a more comfortable stay.
Dining at the Célestins
These dining experiences are part of the hotel's commitment to providing a complete luxury experience. Special events, such as holiday brunches and themed dinners, are often organized, adding a festive touch to the culinary offerings.
However, it's worth noting that some guests have found the prices at the hotel's restaurant to be quite high, with one review describing them as 'extortionate.' This suggests that while the quality may be high, budget-conscious travelers might consider exploring dining options outside the hotel to manage costs.
