Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the unique experience of free, naturally sparkling mineral water directly from the tap in a beautiful, historic pavilion. The accessibility and the refreshing taste are major draws, though some note the water's strong mineral profile. It's a peaceful, picturesque spot that captures the essence of Vichy's spa heritage.

"The Source des Célestins is a publicly available source of heavy mineralized water. There is a technical sheet on the left of the source that shows the results of recent testing that you can look at. Locals do fill up here, but note it is heavily mineral and high in sodium so not really great for those with high blood pressure."

"This magnificent natural spring takes its name from the monastery located on the upper part of the rock.
The only spring in Vichy that is still accessible to all, without a prescription, the Célestins spring is the best-known in Vichy: 40 million bottles are sold each year and it is exported worldwide. Its temperature, between 20 and 22°C (68 and 72°F), ranks it among the cold springs of Vichy. While its consumption does not require a medical prescription, it remains a naturally sparkling thermal water rich in minerals, which promotes hydration, digestion, and a radiant complexion.

The layout of this park, which occupies part of the former convent enclosure, bears the signature landscape of the Second Empire, with its steep paths. Originally, the Allier River reached the foot of the rock; but the deposit of alluvium and the construction of the dike finally allowed the development of the spring's surroundings. It was only in 1908 that the park took on its current appearance with the development of a new refreshment bar which allowed the grouping of the various emergences of the spring drilled between 1857 and 1905. The architect Lucien Woog then designed a vast hall with an elliptical plan, in the style of the 18th century French. The arrangement of the spring itself, under its crystal and copper bell surrounded by pink marble, is the last testimony to the interior appearance of the hall of springs in 1903."
