What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the breathtaking summit views and the well-marked, albeit challenging, trails of Montagne Sainte-Victoire. The refreshing breeze on the ridge is a welcome relief from the sun, and the picturesque starting point at the barrage adds to the experience. Some find certain sections quite strenuous, especially with children, and advise starting early to avoid intense heat.
"Ran this in 3.00hours from victoire campsite. Other reviews were right about there being a decent breeze once you reach the ridge. But some sections are really exposed to the sun for long periods. If it wasn't for the breeze and the cold plunge pool back near the visitors centre I passed on the way up,
I probably would have bailed as it was 34 degrees out. Great route starts out as a steady wide gravel track upto the refuge cezanne then gets steeper and more rocky. I took the facile route up and the difficule route down. Although I actually found the easier route up to be quite sustained along long the steep rocky slabs upto the ridge. When speaking to the incendiary ranger at the top this was supposed to be closed. I had seen a sign about the closed section but it wasn't clear which bit was closed and contradicted the wooden signs. The difficule route down wasnt all that bad to descend only a 1 steep section needing hands to climb and one slightly exposed bit."

"What a truly magical place to come visit. To start the parking is amazing. Completely new and super clean.
Picnic benches nearby for lunch before you start the climb 🪜!!
As for the hike. It is definitely long and you are often in the shade due to trees and rocks. It also tends to be quite windy which really helps with the heat. I visited in July so not full heat!!
I came with my two daughters 10 and 14 respectively. They found some parts of the hike very difficult due to the large amount of going up up up over lots of rocks.
The path is very very clear. It is almost impossible to get lost. Also forbidden due to signs about nature and not disturbing them.
Going up like always is way harder. Both my girls made it without any injuries. We took our time and got reward with a breathtaking view
We started around 15h00 and mounted just before 19h30. So around three hours.
Going down took way less and was super easy"

"This is the peak of the Montagne de St. Victoire. Stunning views of the whole Aix en Provence and Gardanne region. At 1,100 feet elevation, this is a rugged hike even with high fitness level. Start early and bring water to avoid heat exhaustion."
