Reviews Summary

Tignes 1800 Les Boisses is appreciated for its quieter atmosphere and more affordable accommodation options compared to higher villages. While amenities are limited, the free bus service provides good connectivity to the wider Tignes ski area and attractions like La Lagon. Some visitors find the limited facilities and reliance on buses a drawback, but overall it's seen as a practical and peaceful base for a ski holiday.

"Two days between this video and the pictures. Five foot of snow overnight and still snowing in mid April.
Positive of Tignes 1800 is that it's cheaper than high up.
Negatives are:
Pretty limited in terms of facilities, much more higher up and gondola only starts at 9am.
Free buses go from the middle of 1800 which is only about 5 min away from most of it but you have to switch from Green bus serving 1550 and 1800 to a Blue route serving the two higher villages.
Worth noting La Lagon (bigger swimming pool) is free and accessible via the buses."

Ralf Pearson

"Lovely apartment overlooking the slopes, spar shop hassle all you need. Pizza place was very good for food, 1800 restaurant had mixed reviews, the lamb stew was the best of all the meals. La Lac was more varied for eateries but I would look to book especially for your last night if staying at 1800 make sure that you checkboit the free bus times for the evening. Dontvbe stick waiting in the cold for a long time."

Aine Loughran

"Les Boisses is the second lowest ski area in Tignes. If you like a quieter location, this is your thing. There is only 1 lift that takes you over the mountain to the larger ski area of Le Lac and Val Claret, or you can take the bus that runs every 15 minutes.
There is little to do in Les Boisses. Only a few terraces and three restaurants, two (ski/sports) shops, a petrol station and a Spar grocery store. Everything, as expected, is rather expensive."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

Navigating the Tignes Ski Area from Les Boisses

Tignes 1800 Les Boisses serves as a more tranquil and often more affordable entry point into the vast Espace Killy ski domain. While it offers direct access to some slopes, its primary function is as a gateway to the higher, more expansive areas of Tignes Le Lac and Val Claret. The main lift from Les Boisses connects you efficiently to these prime locations, allowing you to explore the extensive network of pistes that Tignes and neighboring Val d'Isère are famous for. InstagramReddit

For those who appreciate a slightly slower pace and potentially better value accommodation, Les Boisses is an excellent choice. However, it's crucial to understand the connectivity. While the free bus service is reliable for getting around the villages, relying solely on it for daily ski access might add time to your commute. Planning your mornings to catch the bus or the main gondola promptly will maximize your time on the slopes. Reddit

When considering Les Boisses, think of it as a comfortable base camp. You have essential amenities like a Spar grocery store and a few dining options, but the true heart of the Tignes ski experience—the extensive terrain and vibrant après-ski—lies a short bus or lift ride away. This balance makes it ideal for families or groups who prefer a quieter evening after a day of exhilarating skiing. Reddit

Beyond the Slopes: Amenities and Activities

While Tignes 1800 Les Boisses is primarily known as a ski resort base, it offers more than just access to the mountains. For families or those seeking a break from skiing, the La Lagon aquatic center is a significant draw. This facility, often free to access for resort guests, provides a welcome respite with its swimming pools and relaxation areas. Reddit

Dining in Les Boisses is characterized by its limited but quality options. The pizza place is frequently mentioned as a good, casual choice, while the 1800 restaurant has received praise for specific dishes like the lamb stew. For a broader culinary experience, the village of Le Lac offers a wider array of restaurants, though booking in advance is highly recommended, especially during peak season. Reddit

Essential services are covered by the Spar grocery store, which stocks most daily necessities, albeit at resort prices. For those looking for a more budget-conscious approach, self-catering from the Spar can be a viable option. The free bus service is not just for ski access; it also connects you to the amenities in other Tignes villages, making it easy to explore the wider resort offerings. Reddit
