What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Refuge de Sales, highlighting its warm, family-friendly atmosphere and the passionate, welcoming caretakers. The delicious food, particularly the fondue, and the stunning natural setting with abundant wildlife are major draws. It's praised as a true escape, offering a chance to disconnect and reconnect with nature and loved ones.
"We were lucky enough to spend a night as a family with children in this refuge… for the second time, as our first experience had been so memorable.
- A warm and family atmosphere: everything is designed to accommodate young and old alike (indoor and outdoor games, books, high chair). The children loved the questionnaire available on the refuge's website, perfect for keeping them occupied and introducing them to the mountains.
- Passionate and welcoming caretakers: every interaction is enriching. They readily share their family history, their love of the refuge, and nature. This truly gives the experience a soul.
- Comfort and cleanliness: the dormitories, although shared, are comfortable and respectful of privacy. The bathrooms (dry toilets, washroom) are clean and well-designed, despite the scarcity of water at altitude.
- Friendly and delicious meals:
Dinner, featuring a delicious Savoyard fondue, occasionally enhanced with an original blend of spices, was a truly shared experience. The evening continued with board games available until the common room closed at 10 p.m.
The hearty breakfast, made with local produce, was a delight.
We didn't have lunch there, but the dishes served looked appetizing, and the picnic baskets offered are a great idea for hikers.
- An exceptional natural setting: marmots, chamois, ibex, incredible starry nights... Starting from the Lignon car park, the access hike is accessible to all levels, varied and superb (forests, streams, waterfalls, meadows, rock faces). With binoculars, children and adults alike can fully enjoy the surrounding wildlife. In August, we extended the experience to Le Dérochoir, offering a breathtaking view of Mont Blanc, amidst the cows in the summer pastures.
- A true return to one's roots: in less than a two-hour walk, you'll find yourself in a timeless place, without a cell phone connection, far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A true luxury these days!
An unforgettable stay, at once exotic, friendly, and rejuvenating. We can't wait to return!"

"We came as a family at the beginning of July for the Nepalese evening (every Monday). We had a great evening at the Sales refuge, the staff is very welcoming, the food delicious, the establishment is very clean and the prices are very reasonable (half-board the cheapest of the fiz tour). For the bravest, you can leave early in the morning to watch the sunrise from the dérochoir. Special mention for the young man who served us a picon to die for. I highly recommend"

"We stopped there on the night of June 25th and this refuge is our absolute favorite. The people who run it are lovely and very welcoming. The facilities were perfect (dry toilets during the day, regular toilets at night, with the option of washing up in complete privacy, which isn't always the case, especially since there are no showers). After a day of hiking, we were treated to a fondue in the evening! And the next morning, a proper breakfast with high-quality products in ample quantities.
Not only is the setting magnificent, but the welcome is fantastic, so thank you again for this wonderful experience and for sharing it with us. We wish you all the best and look forward to returning!"
