What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Courgain Quarter is praised for its undeniable charm, historic architecture, and delicious food, offering a quintessential French experience. However, some visitors have noted challenges with language barriers, potentially impacting service, and minor logistical issues with outdoor dining setups.
"Yes it helps if you speak French but the staff were extremely accommodating for all nationalities that I saw. The food was great. The terrace is slightly apart from the main restaurant/ bar but it’s hardly an issue to walk across the road to pay your bill. Have the fondant au chocolat. It was amazing."

"Tucked in the heart of Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, this restaurant offers a truly French experience — full of charm, character, and the kind of food that makes you pause and appreciate what it really means to eat out; where you’re reminded that eating out is about more than what's on the plate. It’s about slowing down, soaking in the moment, and connecting — with food, with people, with the place.
The food itself was generous and satisfying. I ordered the mussels, and the portion was astounding — almost too many, but in the best kind of way. For the price, it was excellent value. If anything, it could have used a few more chips to balance the dish. My sister chose the croque omelette and praised it highly — a comforting, well-executed classic.
While the atmosphere was quintessentially French, the logistics of the outdoor seating could use a little refining. As we were seated in a corner, we ended up being a sort of overflow waiting area, with guests leaning into our space while queuing for tables. It felt a bit claustrophobic, even after we politely asked multiple groups to give us some room. A simple queue system could really improve the experience without taking away from the relaxed vibe.
Service was friendly, but we did wait just under 45 minutes for our meals to arrive. On a quiet day this might have been frustrating, but amidst the lively ambiance, it felt more like part of the slow, indulgent pace of a Sunday lunch in France — though just a touch quicker wouldn’t hurt."

"Avoid at all costs if you do not speak French!
They do not serve food until 18:30… so you have to just either sit or order drinks until they start their dinner service.
The food itself is okay, nothing to write home about, the steak was chewy and little bland and their burger was just an average with some random salad leaves next to it.
They have outside seating, and it was horrible, they had an open trash can near by which attracted a lot of wasps and the staff visibly see us struggle with them and they do not care at all, I would have left, but everything else required reservations (this restaurant did not need reservations it was a first come first serve basis)
The staff are rude and do not care at all, the female waiter speaks no English in a tourist town, and the male waiter probably would’ve spat in my food, the whole interaction with them felt very negative as a person who was speaking only English.
For payment you have to go to inside of the restaurant across the street, and mention your table number that the waiter tells you. You have to confirm the amount for some reason, as if they want you to add tips.. screw that and you can pay by cash or pin.
I would say the McDonalds near by is a better option!"
