Some passengers also report issues with noise and lack of supervision among children on busy sailings.
"We are frequent users of Brittany Ferries and always have a good predictable service.
We do however feel that the beds could so either better quality mattresses in the cabins & the food especially the vegetarian options very much needed attention. Infact we no longer buy food on board"
Sharon pete Toogood
"Boarded the ferry at Roscoff, day crossing, nice and smooth trip, restaurant food good, had a cabin so we could shower and have a snooze, although we only had one towel. Great to be able to walk around outside on deck and get some last sun rays. Several places inside to sit and amuse yourself, entertainment, cinema and arcade machines. Just so expensive to go over with a motorhome."

"Easy access and smooth transition onto the boat! Hope fully back next year!"

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Consider the duration of your journey. Overnight crossings with a cabin can be more manageable for families, allowing children to sleep. For day crossings, ensure you have activities to keep them entertained. The novelty of being on a large ship can be a highlight for kids, so lean into that excitement!
💰 Budget Travelers
Consider traveling without a vehicle if possible, or opt for a smaller car if you must bring one. If you're on a tight budget, you might need to forgo a cabin and opt for a reclining seat, though this can be less comfortable for longer journeys. Bringing your own food and drinks onboard can also save a considerable amount of money compared to purchasing from the onboard cafes and restaurants.

Navigating Ferry Costs: Value Beyond the Ticket
Consider the time of year and booking window when looking at prices. Traveling during peak summer months or holidays will invariably be more expensive. Booking well in advance, especially for cabins and vehicle spaces, can sometimes secure better rates. However, even with early booking, the ferry can remain a premium option for many travelers. Weigh the cost against the unique benefits: the ability to pack more, avoid airport hassles, and enjoy the journey itself as part of your holiday.
For those prioritizing budget, it's worth exploring alternative travel methods or considering shorter ferry routes if available. Sometimes, a combination of train travel and a shorter ferry hop might be more economical than a direct car ferry crossing. Always do your research and compare all available options to find the best value for your travel needs.
The Onboard Experience: From Relaxation to Revelry
However, the onboard atmosphere can be significantly impacted by other passengers, particularly during busy periods. One reviewer vividly described scenes of unsupervised children running rampant, creating a chaotic environment late into the night. This highlights a potential downside of shared spaces, especially if you're not in a private cabin. If peace and quiet are paramount, securing a cabin well in advance is strongly advised, as they offer a sanctuary from the general hustle and bustle.
Food quality is another aspect that receives varied feedback. While some find the onboard restaurants to be good, others suggest that vegetarian options need attention and that they no longer purchase food on board. It's wise to manage expectations regarding dining and perhaps pack some of your own preferred snacks or meals to ensure a satisfactory culinary experience during your voyage.
