Today was extra special. Stunning exploring for our last day in Brittany, on our bucket list was to visit one of largest Neolithic tombs in Europe. We set off in wild windy wet weather to find a monumental Neolithic tomb site on the Breton coast. One if the largest on mainland Europe. The Neolithic Cairn of Barnenez over looks the Bay of Morlaix, a vast coastal estuary in Finistére Brittany. Date...

Reviews Summary

Visitors are consistently awed by the immense scale and ancient significance of the Cairn of Barnenez, often noting its impressive age compared to other world landmarks. The stunning coastal location overlooking the Bay of Morlaix is another frequently praised aspect, offering beautiful views. However, some find the admission price a bit high for the limited onsite exhibits and the brevity of the experience.

"The oldest burial mound in Europe is massive and sets on a hillside with the most amazing views. There is a small gift shop but the real attraction is the solitude os the location and the realization that this burial site is older than the Egyptian pyramids by a millennium"

David Denny

"Interesting and in a wonderful place. Bit pricey perhaps as there's not a huge lot to do once you've walked round. A very small museum exhibit."

Helen Akitt-Heatley

"Amazing cairn in a stunning location. It’s huge, the builders who established it and contributed to it were really skilled architects. Its contours follow the curve of the hill it is built on, it is beautiful as well as clever. Each stone is in the right place, and there are a lot of them!
The tour guide was too didactic for our taste and gave too many details for us, we left the tour after 10 minutes of standing in the same spot…we wanted shorter explanations as we were going around the cairn.
It is definitely a place you should visit."
