Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Pau for its surprisingly rich collection, featuring renowned artists like Rubens and Degas, all offered with free admission. The friendly staff and helpful English guide are frequently mentioned positives, making it a highly recommended cultural stop. Some find the building's layout a bit confusing, but this is a minor point against an otherwise excellent experience.

"It was a hot afternoon in Pau and I came in not quite sure what to expect. What a treat! Free for starters. Quiet (such a contrast to the galleries in London). Amazing permanent exhibition and - a total treat - seeing the work of one of the masters of photography, Robert Doisneau (a special exhibition). Very friendly staff who did all they could to deal with my schoolboy French. A very good (small) guide in English to illuminate some of their major works."

David Curtis

"Pretty good collection, with some big names like Rubens, Bruegel, Degas, El Greco and a few more.
It's a small museum, 1h/1h30 is enough to see it - in that sense it's enjoyable.
Also the entry is free and the staff are nice"

"One of the best museums I’ve ever visited in my life and I’ve visited a few in big cities. It was so well organised and so packed with gems ! The booklet in English they prepared was fantastic and it was a good guide to walk you through the museum. I spent 3 hours there and I would’ve spent more! The team was friendly and hospitable and the best thing, museum is free. Incredible! They could charge 10 euros and I’d still pay to go in. Bravo to the city for making this available to the public for free and bravo to the team for keeping the place so well organised! Very impressed and I’ll definitely go back again."
