What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Seine river cruises offer a magical way to see Paris, with stunning views of landmarks, especially the Eiffel Tower at night. While many praise the romantic atmosphere and convenient sightseeing, some find the dinner cruise food average and drinks overpriced. Service can be attentive, but be prepared for potential upselling from photographers.
"We took the Seine dinner cruise departing from Orsay quay at 18:45 and everything started on time. The boat was modern, smooth on the water, and the views were fantastic. Seating is assigned, with window tables available for an extra fee. There was live music with a singer performing well-known songs, which created a romantic atmosphere. Not too intimate because of many people sitting close to each other.
The food was average: only the main course came with a choice, while salad and dessert were the same for everyone. The starter was served before departure. The meat option (extra €10) was tough, but the chicken and fish were fine. Drinks are all at extra cost, and the dessert was unimpressive.
For our wedding anniversary, we expected at least a small gesture of attention, but the only option offered was a cake for an extra charge. Even a simple candle with the included dessert would have been enough.
Service was attentive and polite.
The cruise lasted about 1h15. In late September, departing at 18:45 meant enjoying daylight during the ride, but we just missed the Eiffel Tower sparkle after sunset, which was a pity. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, perfect for a tourist in Paris looking for an atmospheric evening on the river."

"A nice experience if you want to see paris without having to walk much. I took the 21:15h cruise with guaranteed view of the eiffel tower sparkling. The food was nothing special and service started 15 min prior to departure. You could choose between two entrées, three main courses (fish, chicken and beef with a 10€ upcharge for the beef steak) and two desserts(crème brûlée or a solid piece of cheap, milk chocolate shaped like the eiffel tower). To top it off no drinks were included in the price. 1 liter of still water cost 8€ with no tap water provided (a law in France-this was mentioned on the website as we were on a boat with no tap water available). Waiters were pushy and two photographers on board pressuring you to take photos on top of unpleasant singing. You could see bits and pieces of the Eiffel Tower from the boat. You would’ve seen it just as well, if not better on land or from a bridge. Overall, not worth the money. If you’re trying to see a little bit of Paris take a cruise on the Seine during daylight hours no need for a fancy dinner."

Navigating Seine River Cruises: Your Options
For a more romantic or celebratory experience, dinner cruises are a significant draw. Companies like Bateaux Parisiens offer multi-course meals with live music as you glide past illuminated monuments. While these provide a magical atmosphere, reviews suggest varying opinions on food quality and value for money, with drinks and premium seating often incurring extra costs.
When choosing, consider your priorities: a quick overview of sights, a romantic evening, or a culinary experience. Research specific operators, check recent reviews, and book in advance, especially for evening or special occasion cruises, to ensure the best experience.
Capturing Paris: Photography Tips for Seine Cruises
Night cruises are essential for witnessing the Eiffel Tower's hourly sparkle, a breathtaking spectacle that transforms the cityscape. To capture this, consider using a tripod if possible, a wider aperture (f/2.8 or lower), and a higher ISO setting to manage the low light conditions. Be aware that the boat's movement can make handheld shots challenging, so stabilization is key.
Modern cruise boats often feature large, clean windows, minimizing glare and distortion for clear shots. However, some travelers note that onboard photographers can be persistent, so be prepared to politely decline if you prefer to capture your own memories. Overall, the Seine offers endless photographic opportunities, from grand architectural vistas to intimate moments of Parisian charm.
The Seine River: Paris's Lifeline and Olympic Stage
In recent years, there's been a significant effort to improve the water quality of the Seine, with ambitious goals for making it swimmable again. This initiative is particularly highlighted by preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympics, where swimming events are planned to take place directly in the river. This monumental undertaking aims to showcase the river's revitalization and its potential for public use.
While the river's transformation is ongoing, a cruise on the Seine remains a quintessential Parisian experience. It allows visitors to appreciate the city's beauty, history, and its evolving relationship with its central waterway, offering a glimpse into both its past and its future.
