What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Les Bains du Marais offers a luxurious and transporting spa experience, particularly praised for its hammam and serene, women-only atmosphere. While many enjoy the facilities and rituals, some guests have encountered issues with inconsistent treatment quality, particularly facials, and minor hygiene concerns in humid areas. The price point can be high, and experiences with massage duration and therapist professionalism have varied.
"Absolutely incredible and luxurious spa experience. The facility is so nicely designed and cleanly kept. The progression from steam sauna, exfoliation, massage and cool plunge and ice room were the perfect escape from the hot spell in the Paris summer (though it’d be great anytime of the year). The staff is so accommodating and made sure we enjoyed the most of our experience. It’s a bit pricey, but well worth the service and experience and I would certainly go back next time I’m in Paris."

"On level -2, there’s a small but clean dry sauna and a fairly spacious Turkish bath—both function well and serve their purpose. There was jelly inside the Turkish bath with camphor and other aromatic spices to rub it into your skin. However, anything involving humidity, like the Turkish bath and showers, had a noticeable moldy smell. It wasn’t overwhelming, but definitely present. The relaxation area on the same floor didn’t meet my expectations. It’s quite dark, with damp couches and poor air circulation. Between sessions, I found myself heading up to level -1 just to get some fresh air and breathe more comfortably. We paid 50 euro/person on a Sunday evening (weekend price)."

"I was very disappointed with the deep facial I received. I booked a 60 min treatment expecting a professional and thorough session, but the experience fell far short: the cleansing was superficial, the therapist left the room for long periods, and the treatment mostly involved applying creams and a mask without proper deep cleansing.
The room was cramped, poorly ventilated, and smelled unpleasant, and the restroom was unhygienic. I also felt uncomfortable with the therapist’s behavior during the treatment.
Overall, the service was unprofessional and did not justify the €95 price.
Update:
I already emailed about my experience and got no reply. now I receive the same automatic apology everyone gets. The facial was unacceptable in both hygiene and professionalism. I expect proper follow-up and a refund or compensation.
Charging €95 for such a poor treatment?
No hesitation.
Customer service that actually goes beyond a generic apology? Clearly not!"

In-depth insights and expert knowledge
The Hammam Experience: A Journey to Purity
Popular treatments within the hammam include the gommage au savon noir (black soap scrub) and the enveloppement au ghassoul (ghassoul clay wrap). The black soap, made from olive oil and olives, is a natural exfoliant that removes dead skin cells, while ghassoul, a mineral-rich clay from Morocco, detoxifies and softens the skin. These rituals are often praised for leaving the skin feeling incredibly smooth and radiant.
While the hammam itself is a highlight, some guests have noted a faint moldy smell in the humid areas. This is a common issue in high-humidity environments and, according to reviews, is usually not overwhelming but present. Despite this, the overall hammam experience is considered a must-do for relaxation and skin rejuvenation.
Navigating Treatments: Massages vs. Facials
Facial treatments, on the other hand, have received more consistent negative feedback. Guests have reported that facials were superficial, lacked proper cleansing, and were not performed professionally. Some reviews even mentioned hygiene concerns and therapists leaving the room for extended periods during the treatment. The high price point for these treatments has led to strong dissatisfaction when the experience does not meet expectations.
For those considering treatments, it's advisable to research specific therapists if possible or to manage expectations, particularly for facials. While the spa's ambiance and other facilities are often praised, the quality of certain treatments appears to be inconsistent. It's also recommended to confirm the exact duration and scope of any treatment when booking.
The Ambiance: A Parisian Oasis
The spa is specifically designed as a 100% feminine space, ensuring a comfortable and private environment for its clientele. This focus on a women-only experience is a key feature that many visitors appreciate, allowing them to fully relax and enjoy the facilities without any reservations.
While the overall ambiance is praised, some guests have pointed out that the relaxation areas can feel a bit stuffy due to poor air circulation. In such cases, visitors have found it more comfortable to move to other levels of the spa to find fresher air. Despite these minor points, the spa's commitment to creating a serene and aesthetically pleasing environment is a significant part of its appeal.
