What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Château de Robert le Diable to be a charming, free historical site with impressive fortified walls and beautiful views of the Seine. While some internal areas are inaccessible, the surrounding forest and the castle's strategic location make it a worthwhile quick stop, especially for road trippers. Some wish for greater accessibility to explore more of the interior.
"Great example of a fortified medieval castle and free! Easy access from Rouen by car and you can wander about in the forest if so inclined, and be cool at the same time. It was anhot day in August so shade is in demand. The view of the Rouen harbour front along the Sienne shows what a great location this is for a hilltop Norman castle, and that alone might make the drive worthwhile; the castle is a bonus! :) Some portions are locked, the more hazardous stairwells, etc, but you can glimpse down and get a sense of how massive this place eonce was."

"Nice quick stop off the highway to see a Norman castle that has all the typical hallmarks of a medieval fort."

"We had an afternoon spare and decided to visit this castle.
Unlike some of the other reviewers, we could get inside (two doors were unlocked) but once within, the monument is disappointing.
Every tower or entrance to staircase (apart from one) was locked and thus, the castle could not be explored.
It is free to visit and that is something good. However it could be so much better."
