What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Château de Lanquais for its romantic atmosphere, well-restored interiors with period furnishings, and the unique experience of visiting a lived-in castle. The architectural blend and the welcoming nature of the owners are frequently highlighted as memorable aspects. However, some travelers have been disappointed by unexpected closures and limited access to certain areas.
"A lived in chateau! It's an impressive building, created over two periods, leaving to an impressive combination of architecture. The inside is well decorated, and restored with original era furnishings. As it's still lived in, there are quite a few areas you can't visit, including the medieval tower, presumably because this is where the family lives, however the rest of the chateau is still worth a visit."
Matt Cuzner
"This chateau was shuttered when we drove up to it. It is hard to imagine a creepier experience. In the slightly overgrown and abandoned state it looked like the home base for a vampire or some other denizen of darkness. Don't take this the wrong way, the building is very impressive and would probably be welcoming if set up for visitors. I would definitely attend if I could!"
Alan Campbell
"Having driven 20 miles to the chateau, I was naturally disappointed to find basically a ruin with no access! Don't understand why the website describes it as open!!! A wasted afternoon."
