What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Txingudi Bay is praised for its beautiful scenery and excellent promenade, perfect for walking and cycling between Spain and France. Visitors appreciate the accessibility and the natural beauty of the bird sanctuaries. However, some note that the water quality is not ideal for swimming, and dog presence can be a concern for some.
"Beautiful part of the world."

"A beautiful bay at the mouth of the Bidasoa River between Fuenterrabía/Hondarribia and Hendaye, marking the border between Spain and France and ending in the Cantabrian Sea between the breakwaters of both beaches.
Former marshes were reorganized during the construction of the Fuenterrabía Airport (EAS) and the breakwaters of the beaches of Hendaye and Fuenterrabía/Hondarribia, creating extensive, wide beaches of fine, well-kept sand in both cases.
Near the French shore, the Bird Island remains, and to the south, the marshes of the Playaundi Natural Park, protected areas for birds.
Beautiful walks can be taken along both shores, especially at high tide.
The bay is quite wide at various points, although depending on the tide (it can have a height difference of up to 4 m), it can be shallower or deeper. Therefore, boats, especially sailboats, should take the necessary precautions and follow the signs to avoid touching the bottom (especially when leaving the port of Hendaye). A nautical chart is available showing the depths of each area.
It can be viewed in its entirety, with good views, from Mount San Marcial (Irún) and from Mount Jaizkibel and the lighthouse road (Fuenterrabía)."

"Nice to see but not for swimming....dirty water and as if that wasn't enough, some dog owners are having a whale of a time, in front of parents and children in the water....what is the municipality of Hendaye doing to prohibit swimming for animals instead of prohibiting the parking of camper vans considered as normal vehicles which bring in money for the city???? Visits, restaurants, excursions, bars, food...."
