You have seen Liberty Enlightening the World, and there had to be someone who created her, right? The artist was Auguste Bartholdi, and the home he was born in is a museum of 3 floors dedicated to his art! There’s works in there of his models for some of the most famous statues he’s created including a preparatory model of a very large, famous ear. There’s a roundabout near the city of Colmar w...

Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Bartholdi Museum to be an interesting and worthwhile stop, offering a good glimpse into the sculptor's life and work, especially his connection to the Statue of Liberty. The museum's affordable entry and the charming, fairytale-like setting of Colmar are frequently praised. However, some guests have experienced poor customer service from staff, and a lack of English translations for exhibit descriptions can be a drawback for international visitors.

"Was treated poorly by the receptionist. Sad, ruined the experience. She thought she was being clever but was rather demeaning. Worst thing is she represents Colmar to the world.

Museum was interesting but very simple. A few models of the artist work and some photographs that are available online.

The most interesting areas were his studios and recreated rooms."

"Great little museum giving a fascinating insight into the famous son of Colmar - "Auguste Bartholdi". Naturally there's a big focus on his most famous work "The Statue of Liberty" and there are many exciting details and photos of it's design, construction and transport to America.

The house itself is the birthplace of Bartholdi and is very well kept in the original period style. It has a great collection of pieces and samples and is not too big or overwhelming for children. We had a great time and the whole family learned alot."

T Foulk

"Nice museum if you're interested in Bartholdi and his life. I wish they would translate more descriptions in English. It's disappointing to pay for a ticket and have most descriptions in french only!"
