What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Refuge des Oulettes de Gaube for its absolutely stunning location and magnificent mountain views, making the challenging hike worthwhile. The friendly staff and surprisingly good meals, especially the vegetarian options, are also frequently highlighted positives. However, some guests find the dormitory accommodations crowded and the facilities basic, with no showers and cold-water toilets.
"Comfortable, warm sleeping facilities in a superbly situated and busy refuge. Interesting conversations over the evening meal, the vegetarian option of goats cheese and spinach lasagne, being probably the best meal we had during our 9 days in France! Would have rated 5 stars but for a rather mediocre breakfast offering."

"The good: A refuge with a stunning view that makes the effort and spartan accommodations worthwhile. Friendly staff. Good meal and good homemade picnic.
The bad: Crowded dormitories with many people compared to other shelters (I slept in a in triple-decker bunk beds for 24 people) . No shower, possibility of a small toilet with cold water. Chemical water outside the refuge with questionable salinity."
Josep Clotet
"Nice location and decent facilities at this refuge. A couple of my friends did get bed bug bites even though we brought our own sheet liners.
Decent enough dinner of soup and chili on couscous. Breakfast was a basic cereal, bread and condiments.
The location was definitely the best feature right under several high peaks and next to a rushing river."
