What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Manufacture des Émaux de Briare holds significant historical and artistic value, but recent visitor experiences highlight issues with accessibility, outdated information, and potential discrepancies in product sales. While the site's heritage is recognized, there's a strong sentiment that it's underutilized and could benefit from better organization and promotion.
"What a disappointment to come here. Saturday, July 13, 2024, abandoned site: Rue Loreau, it says you have to go to 4 rue des vergers. Then at 4 rue des vergers, everything is closed off and unmaintained, although it must have been open once. Neither the website nor the phone number (which no longer seems to be assigned) are up to date. A 4-hour round trip from the Paris region to find nothing upon arrival. The only ones who managed to welcome them were the managers of the small restaurant in the charming marina: "Au Petit St Trop." As for enamels, we'll do without them, in life and in our projects (I came for my job). I'll push on to the fair'ceries in Gien just to be on the safe side.
The Town Hall should be concerned about a highly touristy site when it comes to French art and unfortunately so "lost" in every way."

"Hello, very disappointed. We bought some enamels from the museum shop. On display was a one-kilo bag with a variety of colors. Paola, who runs the shop, told us that we could buy them in 8-kilo boxes for €31 or 19-kilo boxes for €52, which was much more affordable. Since there were several of us doing mosaics, we decided to buy two 19-kilo boxes. Paola confirmed that they were enamels in various colors.
What a (bad) surprise it was to see that the two boxes only contained blue and white! And what's not fair at all is that the whites are very off-white and aren't even Briare enamels! It's simply theft.
I called the museum and got Paola, who remembered us well. When I explained my problem to her, she immediately acknowledged that there had been a mistake on these boxes. And that they should never have been sold to us. She said she would discuss with the manager how to fix the mistake... and today I received an email saying that the manager believes there was no mistake on their part since the batches are made this way!
And since we live 600km away, there's not much I can do about this dishonesty!
So, if you buy boxes of enamel, open them on the spot to check that you're not being ripped off!"

"What a shame not to capitalize on this place that makes the village famous. There's no organization to promote the unique and rich enamels. Yet the "guide" knew their history!"
