What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Arras Cathedral is widely praised for its impressive scale, beautiful stained glass illuminated by natural light, and stunning acoustics, especially during organ recitals. Visitors find the tower views rewarding. However, some note challenges with accessibility for those with disabilities and limited parking nearby. Inconsistent opening hours have also led to disappointment for some.
"No easy access, difficult for people with disabilities"
Fra Saert
"I genuinely think this is one of the most impressive cathedrals in Europe. The place is huge and the stain glass windows are beautiful. The place has so much more natural light that allows you to appreciate the glass and the architecture. There are tours to the top of the tower which gives great views over the area. If you can catch an organ recital then you are really in for a treat, the acoustics are amazing. There is no much parking in the vicinity so you will probably need to park elsewhere and walk in. Well worth the trip though."

A History of Resilience
One notable aspect of its post-war restoration is the artwork by painter Marret, created in 1933 for the reopening of the religious edifice. These pieces are integral to understanding the cathedral's journey and its significance as a symbol of hope and perseverance for the city of Arras. The resilience of the cathedral mirrors that of the city itself, making it a powerful historical landmark.
Visitors often remark on the cathedral's impressive scale and the beauty of its stained glass windows, which are particularly striking due to the abundant natural light that floods the interior. This architectural feature allows for a deep appreciation of both the glass artistry and the structural magnificence of the building. The cathedral's ability to inspire awe, even after enduring such significant historical challenges, is a testament to its enduring appeal.
Experiencing the Acoustics
Beyond formal recitals, the natural acoustics of the cathedral can be appreciated even during quiet moments of reflection. The way sound travels and echoes within the nave contributes to the solemn and awe-inspiring atmosphere. It’s a sensory experience that complements the visual splendor of the architecture and artwork.
For those interested in music or simply seeking a unique auditory encounter, attending an organ performance at Arras Cathedral is a must. It offers a profound connection to the building's grandeur and a memorable highlight of any visit.
