What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Savonlinna Opera Festival is lauded for its breathtaking setting within Olavinlinna Castle and the high quality of its opera performances. Attendees consistently praise the unique atmosphere and the artistic talent on display. However, some visitors find the seating arrangements within the historic castle to be uncomfortably cramped, impacting the overall comfort of the experience, especially for longer performances.
"Excellent opera in a very nice location."
Petteri Londen
"I'd like to give a review of the opera festival that has nothing to do with the music, but rather describes the local conditions. You've chosen the music, after all. It begins with ticket inspection, and you go into an inner courtyard where you can have a drink. Shortly before the concert, you're guided into the concert hall via very narrow paths or stairs. Everything is already very cramped here. Row 20, right in the middle. By now you already have the feeling of being cramped. Outside temperature 30°. A glance to the right - about 25 people. The same to the left. The inner courtyard, which was originally open at the top, is covered. Legroom is zero! You're sharing the warm air with 2,500 other people. I try to suppress the rising feeling of oppression. In short - after the interval, which lasted about 1.5 hours, I'm not going back.
For the ticket price of 175.00 euros, I not only want to sit comfortably, but also be able to breathe. The seating is designed for maximum capacity. Relaxed listening is out of the question for me. Never again!!!!"
Thomas Lustenberger
"We came to see The Magic Flute. It was too modernized a version for our taste."
