What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Thurston Gardens is a pleasant, free botanical garden in Suva, appreciated for its mature trees and the fascinating fruit bat colonies, especially at dusk. While some visitors note a lack of plant labels and occasional maintenance issues like standing water or scattered litter, its proximity to the Fiji Museum and its role as a peaceful city oasis make it a worthwhile stop for a relaxed stroll and unique wildlife viewing.
"Nice, FREE moderate sized gardens with some large trees (one of which dropped a large limb near us while walking by haha). Many of the trees are filled with hundreds of bats, which is fun to see. No labels on anything and some garbage and tree refuse scattered about in various areas, as well as a few people sleeping under some trees, but overall reasonably maintained. Could use a few more benches for seating and better cleaning but overall a decent garden, with the Fiji Museum (and nice clean restrooms) located in the back."

"If you're going to see the Parliament building, Albert park, the Presidential Palace, the Fiji Museum, etc you're going to end up in Thurston Gardens at some point. Not much to see in the garden except the clock tower and some short walking paths. You can pass through this on the way to the Fiji Museum which is well worth it. Also... Very cool trees filled with giant fruit bats (Pteropus Vampyrus)."
