Reviews Summary
Visitors find the hike to Borðan Lighthouse to be a challenging but rewarding experience, emphasizing the wild beauty and solitude. While the lighthouse itself may not be the main attraction, the trek across Nólsoy island, with its sheep and dramatic landscapes, leaves a lasting impression. However, the hike is demanding, often taking longer than expected and requiring careful navigation and preparation for muddy conditions.
"This is NOT the light house the Nølsoy trail goes to. This is the old light house. However, when hiking from the new light house beware that it is quite a long hike, with no apparent track. So I would not recommend to hike here, unless you are sure the weather will be good for the rest of the day, and that you have a lot of time.
It is quite more taxing walking in wild terrain than on a track, although the hike itself is quite beautiful. But then you have to find the way back! So it's at least one extra hour (maybe more), without any apparent tracks (which I may have missed).
I think that the 5 hour back and forth to the regular light house is quite enough for an enjoyable experience."

"The hike takes more time than indicated on the information board. We could not reach the lighthouse because we didn’t allocate enough time. Prepare yourself for a lot of mud🙈🙈🙈"

"The lighthouse itself is hardly impressive. What is, is the hike leading up to it! As soon as you exit the ferry, you take the path on the right, and then you will literally cross the entire island to the southern end. To avoid getting lost, follow the blue markers (I took a photo of one). It takes around 2 to 2.5 hours depending on your level (multiply by two for the return), three hours if you stop a lot to take photos.
Depending on the weather, the route may not be easy because you often plunge into "swamps" and the passage on the mountainside, although marked, still requires caution. However, it remains a relatively accessible hike if you are in good shape.
What can I say about the hike itself? We were literally alone. Not another soul living. Just encounters with sheep and alone with ourselves. In these cases, we stop, we think about the meaning of life and we say to ourselves that we are incredibly lucky to explore such landscapes! This hike will remain forever marked in my head!"
