"Visited 20 October 2022.

The last site visited our day trip between Aswan and Abu Simbel.

We were thankful that every site we visited that day we were alone which made the visit so much more special.

This is the smallest temple of the five seen and is also incomplete as it was constructed by Rome.

This is the only temple in Egypt with a spiral staircase which is behind a locked gate."

A Roman Endeavor in Nubia

The Temple of Maharraqa stands as a unique testament to Roman influence in ancient Egypt. Unlike many of the grand Pharaonic temples, Maharraqa was constructed by the Romans, showcasing a different architectural style and purpose. It's noted for being one of the smaller temples in the region and, importantly, it remains incomplete, offering a glimpse into the construction process. This Roman origin gives it a distinct character compared to its more ancient neighbors. Reddit

One of the most intriguing features of the Temple of Maharraqa is its spiral staircase. This is reportedly the only one of its kind found in an Egyptian temple, highlighting Roman engineering prowess. However, visitors often find this unique element behind a locked gate, making it inaccessible for exploration. Despite this, its presence adds to the temple's historical intrigue and its status as a noteworthy, albeit unfinished, Roman monument in Nubia. Reddit
