What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Hurghada Grand Aquarium offers a visually engaging experience with a diverse range of marine and land animals, particularly enjoyable for families. While some visitors find the ticket price steep and express concerns about animal welfare and enclosure conditions, many still appreciate the underwater tunnel and the variety of species on display.
"Excellent experience as it showcases a lot of beautiful wildlife. Ample parking outside, and is wheelchair accessible, recommended for all ages. Ticket is pricey for what it is but you can spend all day there and even hand feed some of the fish and other animals"

"We expected a lot better quality of the whole aquarium. The first part is probably the worst, we saw a dead floating koi fish in the water, 2 probably dead lizards (they looked squished, one had ants crawling on his head) and the whole rainforest theme was fake and plastic. The second part was outside where there wasn’t enough space at all for the amount of animals. The owls have almost nothing in their enclosure. Three water turtles had probably 3 m2 of space. The fish had small enclosures too, but i think it’s not that bad. The big aquarium was ok. One white shark was on the ground and shaking (?) the whole time. We didn’t get to see the feeding.
It looks like it was popular and used to look nice, but now it looks old and unkept. It looks good in photos, but it definitely needs renovation and better care for the animals!"

"Some notes:
- if you bring your own camera, you have to pay an extre fee of €25.
- Photographers will take your pictures during the visit, and at the end, you'll be asked to pay €15 for each photo.
About the mini zoo:
- In my opinion, the animals don't have enough space (especially when compared to zoos in Germany or South America).
- You can feed some of the animals, which can be nice for kids.
About the aquarium:
- there's not enough information about the fish you're seeing.
- There is a "feeding show," but I found it unpleasant. Some fish animals seem bothered and stressed during the process."

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
While some reviews mention concerns about animal enclosure sizes, the overall experience is highly rated for children. It's a great way to keep them entertained and educated, especially during the hot summer months when outdoor activities might be less appealing. Consider bringing cash for animal feed and be prepared for potential extra costs for photos if you want professional souvenirs.
💰 Budget Travelers
While inside, be aware of additional costs for professional photos (around €15 per photo) and potentially for using your own camera. Bringing cash can be useful for purchasing animal food (around €1) for a more interactive experience with the monkeys and turtles. If you're looking for a more affordable way to see marine life, consider snorkeling or diving tours in the Red Sea, which might offer a more natural and extensive experience for a similar or lower price point.
📸 Photography Enthusiasts
Be prepared for potential fees for using your own camera, and note that professional photos offered by the aquarium are quite expensive. Experiment with low-light settings to capture the best images in the aquarium's environment. The variety of species and exhibits ensures a diverse portfolio of shots, making it a worthwhile stop for visual storytellers.

Exploring the Marine Life
While the main aquarium is a draw, some reviews suggest that the enclosures for certain species, particularly fish, could be larger. Despite this, the sheer variety of marine life on display makes it a compelling visit for anyone interested in underwater ecosystems. The opportunity to see creatures like sharks up close, especially during feeding times, is a significant highlight for many.
It's worth noting that some visitors have expressed concerns about the condition of certain exhibits and the welfare of some animals. However, for many, the aquarium in Hurghada remains a popular choice for experiencing marine biodiversity without needing to dive into the Red Sea itself.
Beyond the Fish: Mini Zoo & Other Exhibits
While the mini zoo provides a different kind of animal encounter, some visitors have pointed out that the enclosures for these animals might be smaller than ideal, especially when compared to international standards. Despite these observations, the presence of these animals adds another layer to the visitor experience, making it a more comprehensive attraction. The opportunity to see a mix of aquatic and terrestrial life in one location is a key selling point.
In addition to the main aquarium and mini zoo, the facility also includes exhibits that aim to showcase local culture, such as a Bedouin life exhibit, offering a glimpse into traditional life in the region. This blend of natural history and cultural elements aims to provide a well-rounded experience for visitors.
Photography Opportunities & Tips
However, be mindful of the photography policies. While you can use your own camera, there might be an additional fee. The aquarium also offers professional photography services, but these can be quite expensive, with costs per photo adding up quickly. If you're on a budget, consider focusing on capturing memories with your own device and being aware of any potential charges for its use.
For the best shots, try visiting during less crowded times to avoid obstructions in your photos. The lighting within the aquarium can be moody, so experimenting with camera settings might be necessary to get clear, vibrant images. Remember to also capture the unique exhibits beyond the fish, like the reptiles and birds in the mini zoo.
