What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve for its incredible biodiversity, particularly its abundant birdlife and the expertise of its guides. The lodge offers comfortable accommodations, excellent food, and a welcoming atmosphere, making it a highly recommended escape for nature lovers. Some note the bumpy journey from Quito and the potential for rain, but these are generally seen as minor aspects of an otherwise exceptional experience.
"Spent a beautiful night with the wonderful people at Bellavista. This lodge certainly caters to avid bird watchers, but is also a lovely place to visit even for those without birding experience or interest. You can join guided tours at your leisure or hike the many miles of trails through the dense cloud forest on your own which was easy to navigate. For the inexperienced birder, many birds approach the lodge, and I got to see many exotic species including toucans without a trained eye. On top of that, the staff was lovely, they were attentive and accommodating. It was a wonderful stay and I would recommend to anyone who would like to escape Quito for a night or two."

"I had a fabulous one night (2 day) stay at the BellaVista. Mateo was an awesome guide and extremely knowledgeable about the plant life of the area. He told us of these giant worms in the area and on the second day we found one! I was thrilled. The food was also excellent, Blanca in the restaurant was so sweet! I would recommend this to all my friends and family. They are very kind people who really care about the wildlife and nature. We also went to see the cock on the rock, that was a fun expedition and I’d recommend it too! Room was very clean and the stars at night out there are so so beautiful."

"We did the 3 nights 4 days package and were picked up from the airport and dropped back there also. This is a very professionally run and well managed lodge. The setting is beautiful and we’d recommend a room with a balcony. The food was superb and all staff were friendly and helpful. A huge shout-out is needed for the guides Moises & Gabriel who just know all there is to know about both birds, plants and all things cloud forest!! Their ability to spot birds and name them at a distance is outstanding! There are 3 organised walks a day along well marked trails but you can also walk them without a guide. The morning session at 6.30 was an excellent viewing opportunity at the lodge itself, and the guides helped with taking photos via their scopes which was really appreciated. There are also drivers on had to take people further afield on different trips if this was requested.
We rated our room 5* as it had a balcony, was large, comfortable, and the shower always hot. We wouldn’t say it was luxurious as such, but we were very happy with it. The food was excellent and gluten-free options were available. Wine can be purchased at $35-40 a bottle so you might want to bring your own with you. Do pack a waterproof or poncho as it frequently rains. It’s not cold as such but layering is helpful as the rain can make it feel damp. You’ll get hot walking though! All to be expected in a cloud forest. We would highly recommend nature lovers come here if coming through Quito."
